Spell check existed long before genAI and in its most basic function is not genAI. Spell check is code. It's a function. It checks against a database of available words. Spell check in certain programs, however, may have been made worse by running it through genAI.

I say this with zero irony: if you are even tangentially a part of a retro video game community, it is your civic duty to push back against this company and shun anyone who doesn't. This is fascism tapping gently at the door and as soon as you let it in, it's going to invite its friends.

-Comes into your space uninvited, without permission

-Greedily uses up resources preferentially

- Forces a new mode of existence on you

-Steals your own shit to sell back to you

-Desperately wants to convince you that its arrival is good, that these are glad tidings

Creative solidarity means:

If you're a writer, do not use AI "art" or AI "voiceover"
If you're an artist, do not use AI "writing" or AI "references"
If you're a streamer/actor, do not use AI for backdrops, thumbnails, etc.

Never help AI steal another medium

No excuses, no shortcuts, no surrender.

However else you label the Bondi Beach shootings — hate crime, terror attack — they were the murder of innocent people for being Jews, in a place very far from Israel and Gaza.

Fear of copycat monsters will also inhibit Chanukah celebrations all over the world now.

Horses Is Tame
Horses, the indie game that is too scandalous for either Valve or Epic, is only beyond the pale if you're not familiar with any other art form.

The distressing thing about this is that anyone who's read deeper than school or TV documentary level knows that, in its multitudinous, multifaceted way, the Holocaust was so much worse than I think the majority of people understand
Among Republicans - " The Holocaust of Jews and Nazi Germany was greatly exaggerated or did not happen as historians describe"

Agree: 37%

Why do you appreciate unions?

I’ll start:

Weekends off
Paid vacations
Work breaks
Sick leave
Paid holidays
No child labor
Safer working conditions
Health care and retirement benefits

I would totally watch this.
Give me money and I’ll make Corner Smokes - a Native spinoff of Corner Gas where Davis moves to rez to take over his late aunt’s smokeshop. I’m not saying I’ve written the first episode and show bible, but...
I think if Canada wants to have a strong cultural identity we need to go back to doing what we're best at, making the weirdest fucking TV shows you've ever seen

This is a huge step backward for Canada. PM Carney’s lack of prioritization of women’s issues is deeply concerning. A feminist foreign policy is non-negotiable in building a safer world for women and girls.

I know this makes me like a terminal bummer or whatever but there is still an Xbox boycott under BDS. The Gaza genocide might not be as in your face as it was a year or even six months ago but shit ain’t over. Israel/the US just put forward an ethnic cleansing proposal masquerading as a peace plan.

In love and solidarity, we recommit to the fight for safety, dignity, and a world where trans people are valued, and free.

The Illustrated Junior Classics edition of The Count of Monte Cristo in third grade, had me picking myself up after every beating I got at school (was bullied, a lot), muttering that "All of human wisdom is summarised in the words wait and hope" and my gateway to older books in general.
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

This image briought back memories. Thank you. I am quite sure they would be very clearly ‘not good’ if looked at again, compared to the books they scaled down but, yes, a gateway.
Not a book but a series. I used to devour these mini illustrated classics in elementary school. They turned me into a lifelong reader.

What a lot of people don't understand is that strikes are *expensive* and not all of the unions have adequate war chests to just drop everything today.

I think this is a solid plan, while working toward escalating labour actions.
