I've said it multiple times on this app and I'll say it again - I cobble income together from several jobs (teaching, editing, writing) and I have a supportive husband who has insurance. We are not hand to mouth. Writing has been a loss, income-wise. I made more teaching 20 hours of piano a week.
I know we know this, but authors need to get better at talking about how they actually make their money. Stop pretending it's from the books.

In Morrow County, healthy adults were coming down with unexplained medical conditions, including diseases that usually afflicted the elderly.

In a survey of 30 homes, at least 25 miscarriages and a half dozen people living with one kidney were reported.

Incidentally, theft like this is why there won’t be a second Steelflower trilogy, why the Bannon & Clare series was canceled by the publisher, and why I will never do another collected SquirrelTerror book.
I did a thread a few weeks ago of "authors link your stuff" & one of my author friends who is one emergency away from being homeless had a massive spike in downloads on Anna's Archive from people *who follow me* complaining about how they are poor & should be allowed to steal from other poor people

Many thanks to @jhameia.bsky.social and @viengsamai.bsky.social for the rescues, lol.
By the way, it's National Editor Appreciation Day.

Nobody ever reads a great article and thinks, "Dang, that was some tight editing." But editing is a big part of how it got to be great.

So writers, if you've ever worked with a good editor, shout 'em out.

They're demanding, among other things, sewage removal and heat and electricity restroration.

More updates TK.

agreed that we should know what our elected officials are thinking, do not agree that means we let them say what they want in an opinion piece without context (for ex knowing what we know about machine learning, how do we acct for the inevitable bias in an AI-powered weapon detection system?????)
November 24, 2025 at 4:06 PM
AI-powered *weapons detection systems*? Is this man serious or is he excited to visit more violence on kids from faulty and inaccurate tech? District 1, get rid of this man.
DeKalb County Commissioner Robert Patrick submitted this guest opinion column about artificial intelligence. For the record: These are his opinions, not ours. But we see the value in letting people know what our elected officials are thinking.
OPINION: AI tech is charting a new path for DeKalb County
Georgia embraces technological innovation, leveraging AI to improve infrastructure and safety in DeKalb County. Commissioner Patrick prioritizes sustainable growth and efficiency to benefit residents.

Did the math. If I were paid for each download on that piracy website, I'd have at least 500+ USD more than I do now. I gave up counting after 100 tbh.

What's 500 USD to me? Business insurance, or therapy for my kid, or a gig I didn't have to take so I could write the books y'all steal

I'd never heard of this site until tonight. Both my books are on there. Did you know my publisher offers one of three lowest royalty rates in the entire industry? And that I didn't get an advance? Literally all I make is from royalties. Royalties I don't earn when you pirate my book.
I posted a buy link here to "A Magical Inheritance" a few days ago, and 24 of you immediately went to Anna's Archives and fucking stole it from me.

Yes, stole it.

I do not get paid for your download there because YOU ARE STEALING FROM ME.

Good news we have hot water, bad news this shit was expensive
Please buy my books? Definitely need to sell a few dozen (hundred sob) copies
Plumber confirmed that the fuses blowing yesterday was due to the water heater and we need a new water heater. I did find the fuse for the water heater itself so we're good heating wise
(last night we had no light or heating in half the flat, which is less fun).
Wheee
Please buy my books?
