Wow. The agenda is up for the 10/20 Council meeting... and it includes a settlement agreement in the White v. Charlottesville case.

The city will prepare a Traffic Impact Statement by the process in 24VAC30-155. In exchange, the plaintiffs will drop the case against the new zoning ordinance.

Charlottesville City Council Staff Contact(s): John Maddux, City Attorney Presenter: John Maddux, City Attorney Date of Proposed Action: October 20, 2025 Issue Whether to authorize an agreement to settle White v. Charlottesville City Council, a lawsuit challenging the legality of the zoning ordinance adopted by the City Council in December of 2023. Background / Rule In January 2024, several community members filed a lawsuit challenging the new zoning ordinance adopted by City Council in December 2023. Over time, the case narrowed to two main questions: whether the City was required to send certain traffic information to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), and whether the City gave reasonable consideration to factors required by state law when adopting the ordinance. Although a trial was scheduled for September 2026, the City and the plaintiffs have reached an agreement to resolve the case. Under the agreement, the City will provide the requested traffic information to VDOT, and the plaintiffs will withdraw their lawsuit. As long as the City meets its obligations, this agreement will bring the litigation to an end. Analysis The City remains confident that it would ultimately prevail in this matter. However, the cost of discovery, trial, and potential appeals would be substantial for all parties, and any litigation carries inherent risks. This proposal, where the City will provide certain traffic information in exchange for dismissal of the case offers a practical and cost-effective path forward. Accepting this resolution will avoid further litigation expenses and provide clarity and stability for the City’s zoning ordinance. Financial Impact Funds will be required to complete the necessary traffic studies for submission to VDOT, and these costs are expected to be meaningful. However, they are anticipated to be substantially lower than the costs the City w… SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT This AGREEMENT is made effective as of the date of the last signature hereto (the “Effective Date”), by and between G. A few thoughts on the Jack Jouett primary. @sallyforsupervisor.bsky.social won for a few reasons: first, she had better ideas. Pro-housing policies are very popular! County politics often get stuck in the mud and she figured out how to navigate them in a forward thinking, results oriented way.

BREAKING: Judge Trevor McFadden, appointed by Trump in his first term, issues a preliminary injunction ordering the Trump admin to rescind its decision blocking AP access to the Oval Office & Air Force One.

McFadden found the admin issued an unconstitutional viewpoint-based restriction on the AP.
UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT FOR THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA ASSOCIATED PRESS, Plaintiff, v. TAYLOR BUDOWICH, in his official capacity as White House Deputy Chief of Staff, et al., Defendants. Case No. 1:25-cv-00532 (TNM) MEMORANDUM ORDER About two months ago, President Donald Trump renamed the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America. The Associated Press did not follow suit. For that editorial choice, the White House sharply curtailed the AP's access to coveted, tightly controlled media events with the President. The AP now sues the White House chief of staff, her communications deputy, and the press secretary (collectively, "the Government", seeking a preliminary injunction enjoining the Government from excluding it because of its viewpoint. Today, the Court grants that relief. But this injunction does not limit the various permissible reasons the Government may have for excluding journalists from limited-access events. It does not mandate that all eligible journalists, or indeed any journalists at all, be given access to the President or nonpublic government spaces. It does not prohibit government officials from freely choosing which journalists to sit down with for interviews or which ones' questions they answer. And it certainly does not prevent senior officials from publicly expressing their own views. Case 1:25-cv-00532-TNM Document 46 Filed 04/08/25 Page 2 of 41 No, the Court simply holds that under the First Amendment, if the Government opens its doors to some journalists be it to the Oval Office, the East Room, or elsewhere- it cannot then shut those doors to other journalists because of their viewpoints. The Constitution requires no less. IV. CONCLUSION For these reasons, it is ORDERED that Plaintiff's [27] Amended Motion for Preliminary Injunction is GRANTED; and it is further ORDERED that 1. Defendants shall immediately rescind the denial of the AP's access to the Oval Office, Air Force One, and other limited spaces based on the AP's viewpoint when such spaces are made open to other members of the White House press pool. 2. Defendants shall immediately rescind their viewpoint-based denial of the AP's access to events open to all credentialed White House journalists. 3. This preliminary injunction shall remain in effect until further order of this Court. 4. This preliminary injunction issues without the requirement of any security bond. oh that was fast. it only took the jury two and a half hours to find vasillios pistolis guilty of burning an object with the intent to intimidate for his participation in the august 11, 2017 nazi torch march. he will be sentenced in july.
