Wrote a piece for @slate.com explaining that states have a long history of prosecuting federal officers when they allegedly use excessive force. Federal officers are only immune from such prosecutions when they act reasonably in carrying out lawful duties.

The gun should have never come out at all. First rule of gun safety is never even AIM a gun, let alone fire, unless you intend to kill. That means even in the general direction of anyone. This isn't a James Bond movie. People have a chance of dying any time a gun is involved regardless of intent.

God forbid any of us end up in a similar position, I hope we get the impassioned support and defense Renee did in her final moments — particularly from the woman heard on the video.
HuffPost has obtained a video of a physician trying to give medical care to the woman shot and killed by ICE agents today, and not being allowed to go near her.
The ICE agents claim there are medics on site, but witnesses scream that there are no medics present.

I won't circulate that awful video, but it’s very telling that the first thing the two ICE agents do after the shooting is pull up their face coverings—as if all they need to do to mask their behaviour is to mask themselves, as if their anonymity is a shield against all accountability.
