I would read this guide—something like “welcoming people into safer communications, while also not demobilizing them when they inevitably make a mistake.” I can’t think of another time when people were urgently needing these tools and skills at this scale.
I need people who don’t live in the Twin Cities to stop telling people not to join massive Signal groups right now. People are doing it. They’re going to keep doing it. Give them good advice about it.

The actually practical advice is don’t say anything to 1000 strangers you wouldn’t say in public

something i often forget but am trying to remember: in democratic politics, the amount of credit for being right you get is directly correlated with how willing you are to allow most people to pretend they were never wrong in the first place - or if they were, it was for the right reasons.

Condé Nast forgot to renew the trademark for Gourmet and so a group of journalists grabbed it and are relaunching the food magazine as a worker-owned co-op. Love it. [gourmetmagazine.net]

This is one of the best comments on some of the marketing tactics behind AI that I’ve seen.

There are of course, other elements to their approach/targetting, but this is good.
GenAI seems to be marketed towards folks who would like to or need to upskill but cannot (for whatever reason) while those who use it possibly cannot see how it effectively deskills and/or infantilises them.

they didn’t leak it to make the shooter look innocent, but to make the victim look guilty. not guilty of a crime. guilty of having a visibly queer wife. guilty of liberalism. guilty of opposing the regime. they don’t seek to exonerate themselves, only to demonstrate who deserves to die.
In the video that the shooter took, which I believe was leaked to be exculpatory, he appears to yell “fucking bitch” after he shoots Renee Good.
