What really gets me about the FIFA thing, as with many aspects of the Trump administration, is how transparently stupid it is. Of course, there's no reason a soccer agency would award a peace prize! We all know this! It's a lie so blatant that it's almost not worth discussing!

i think the inability to tell the difference between "i don't like it" and "i don't like it so i have to figure out a way to imply this thing i don't like is morally evil" is the most fundie thing i see people who are aren't technically fundie regularly do these days

This is probably of interest to no one, but it took me forever to figure out what was the experimental rock album about talk shows that an acquaintance lent me in 1998, so here it is: mikelrouse.bandcamp.com/album/dennis...

Younger people who didn't witness it cannot fathom the hype around the Segway. Every news station agreed it would revolutionize the entire social fabric of the Earth. That all future humans would divide history between the savage days of the past, and the soon to be new era of zoom zoom scoot scoot.

A couple weeks ago we got a lovely note from someone on the other side of the country thanking us profusely for ILLing a book to them. Curious, we looked up the book they borrowed.

It would have cost $1,200 for them to purchase it.

ILL is one of the things I love most about libraries.
Requested a book through ILL over break. It arrived today. Libraries man.

I realize the answer to "why do I keep getting ads for weird sound objects" is "because you always click on them", but: BALL MAKE NOISE oddballism.com/en-us/pages/...

another twist to my POV on the Cultural Stagnancy Debate: a friend just posted this article, and while it makes a lot of familiar points (design and culture has gotten repetitive, flattened out and conformist), I think what's worth examining is that one culprit is bottom-line capitalism
