LLM users desperately trying to make ‘LLM shaming’ a thing.

Quite simply: not all of the problems with LLM usage are solvable by individual choice. The correct analogy is not dietary preference but more like driving. You can’t escape the negative effects of cars on society by choosing not to drive.

Whoopsy there it is. VSCode has gone from pushing copilot to getting in my way. I don't want to change IDE but maybe the time is fast approaching...

I can’t get over all the journalists and centrist pundits who sneered that “Twitter isn’t real life” when it was full of weird leftists but now insist it’s a vital window into the public mood when the entire site is Nazis, illegal porn, bots, and Belarusians calling themselves “Iowa MAGA Farm Guy”
thinking about how long leftists were blamed for making twitter inhospitable for MPs who are refusing point blank to leave now it's full of nazis and child porn

Been rewatching Fullmetal Alchemist recently which has been both disquieting and comforting. Genocide is the same as it was when that original manga was written. Illegal warfare and greed, also the same. Hard, heavy, passionate resistance was and still is the right call

Allow me to connect some dots for you:

Too much of the world currently relies for its basic functions on resources which must be continuously extracted. You burn that oil one time and oops, now you need more.

Geopolitical horrors are, in fact, one of the reasons we need to move to renewables ASAP.

New releases from the National Archives of government records from 2005 show how ministers and officials reacted uneasily to the implementation of FOI, and how they handled some initial cases - "This is becoming a real problem". What I found in the files: rosenbaum6.substack.com/p/tony-we-ha...

Remember:

When Tylenol was poisoned *by an outsider* and killed people, the company recalled all their products & redesigned them.

When Intel’s Pentium had a bug so obscure it affected 1 in _9 billion_ long division calculations, they recalled their chips.

ChatGPT was made deadly *by its team*.
i don’t see how any of the benefits of chatgpt and other consumer-facing LLMs can possibly outweigh their incredible ability to induce suicides
Adam Raine’s life hurtled toward tragedy soon after he began talking with ChatGPT about homework. Analysis of his ChatGPT account shows how the chatbot became a confidant as he planned to end his life.

Monzo's wrapped type thing is a huge miss. Money isn't something that you should make a wrapped for, maybe. Also weirdly insulting? Saying that I spent a lot of money on Steam and then saying 'the only library you've ever been to' is kinda funny but also, like, fuck off?

MIT’s NANDA initiative found that 95% of generative AI deployments fail after interviewing 150 execs, surveying 350 workers, and analyzing 300 projects. The real “productivity gains” seem to come from layoffs and squeezing more work from fewer people not AI.
MIT report: 95% of generative AI pilots at companies are failing
There’s a stark difference in success rates between companies that purchase AI tools from vendors and those that build them internally.
