![Excerpt from article: "The praise heaped upon a student who interrupted a class lecture to announce that she was personally offended by the instructor’s views on gender and who then proceeded to push to have that instructor fired is an illuminating contrast to the widespread vilification and punishment of college and graduate students who have protested external speakers on the basis of their views on gender. For example, students who protested a speech by a lawyer from the extreme anti-LGBTQ+ organization Alliance Defending Freedom at Yale Law School were accused of imposing a “heckler’s veto”; they were mocked, denounced, and “canceled” from consideration as clerks by several prominent, conservative federal judges. Stanford Law School students who disrupted a speech by a far-right conservative federal judge, Kyle Duncan, were similarly lambasted for their “intolerance” and similarly excluded for consideration for federal clerkships by conservative judges. These incidents have been frequently cited as examples of “snowflake students” trying to shut down discussion of topics they find personally offensive or unpleasant.
