This one highway is projected to cost 85% of what CA has spent on high-speed rail over 15 years and hundreds of miles. If we can afford this, we can afford high-speed rail.

The entire proposed Highway 37 Solano-Marin super bridge is estimated to cost $11 billion, all to replace an existing road between a couple of suburbs. And it's proposed at 114 feet wide.

For comparison, the Golden Gate Bridge is 90 feet wide.

Caltrans has released a cross section for the ultimate (raised viaduct) version of SR-37.

Now maybe I'm just being paranoid, but if you were building a road that you planned to keep at 4 lanes wide, I don't think it would look like this.

Currently in Tokyo, and let me tell you the depth of some metro stations here is not a desirable feature. The only reason it works as well as it does here is because the trains come every 3-5 mins.

I doubt Seattle will run trains that frequently (and I know SJ BART won't)

Re: the discourse about the Seattle Link station:

Going under a tunnel is going to be painful, but there's a lot of stuff separate from the tunnel depth that should be looked at. The deeper you go, the worse the station costs get and it happens in almost an exponential fashion.

Two things immediately jump out separate from the tunnel depth.

First, the depth of the station box, what’s going on those two bottom levels? Passengers won’t be using them, they’ll be following the passageway.

Second, 34’ wide platform seems way excessive. (SAS was 28’)

You could electrify 4.5 Caltrains for the cost of this $11B eight lane highway through the wetlands that is currently a two lane road

The CBS takeover by Larry Ellison and Bari Weiss is the most foreboding move in a while, and I’m not saying that lightly.

It will have an effect on the 2026 elections: CBS will now lie to people and normies will believe it.

Regrettably, Governor Newsom just signed this bill, paving the way to widen a rapidly sinking highway.

Today’s passage of AB 697 marks a major advance for long-running efforts to start work on a suite of projects to enhance North Bay marshlands and wildlife habitats, reduce flooding, improve traffic flow along Highway 37, and introduce transit service between Vallejo and Novato.

Embarcadero platform is narrow, but why not Civic Center?

Also hilarious that they flip-flopped between 12th and 19th a couple times in the 2000s and I *still* get confused

Always remember that if they do this to some people — whether immigrants or otherwise — they can do it to you. We must never normalize this gestapo behavior. There needs to be severe accountability for these thugs & the fascists who direct them.

According to eyewitnesses, armed ICE agents dragged kids out of their beds in the middle of the night, zip tied them and put them in rented vans while raiding an * entire apartment building* on the South Side of Chicago.

I agree that NYC nightlife is better than SF. NYC being more diverse in industries and housing affordability makes for a better city. But it's easy to avoid tech crowds if you avoid tech scenes. Its a self report when people complain that everyone they know is tech. Tech's only 12% of the workforce.

I wish the same national pundits/reporters who love critiquing California's highly critique-able high speed rail would drill literally one layer down to report that most cost is due to the fact that highway contractors control 100% of our budget and are using most HSR funds to ... widen highways.

What's up, railfam? We've got some overbuilt CA HSR grade seps here in Madera!

A veto may sink him among people in California who have supported him up till now, but Gavin's whole career has involved burning bridges like that in order to get to the next one, full of fresh bodies who've never heard of any of this and will happily and naively vote for him

This is worth a read.

“You don’t have to turn your back on the big issues, but you also don’t have to import the entire national crisis into your personal one… try to find an approach that reflects what matters… Then look for ways to act in the world, close to home, that rise out of those values.”

Every day you think there should be some sort of "emperor's new clothes" moment where someone loses it, stands up, and shouts, "My god, can't everyone see that this man is insane?" I realize it's probably not going to happen at an event full of Pentagon brass, but sheesh.
