Leftists love to complain about Democrats “getting more right wing” but the single most damaging and regressive policy shift within the party over the last decade was becoming warm to anti-trade crank horseshit
If the last ten years have taught us anything, it’s the potency and danger of cranks with crank views managing to catch the rising tide of a broader sentiment and use it to spread their horseshit to a far wider audience

We are, what, 15ish years on from James O'Keefe's pretty obvious ratfucking work with Project Veritas and news orgs are still out here falling for this sort of shit?

Hard to come to any other conclusion besides that they support GOP efforts to sabotage/destroy these social institutions.

This is the other thing about that Minnesota daycare thing, it is pretty obviously being coordinated by inauthentic accounts
It’s not a single isolated case. It’s widespread organized fraud to the tune of hundreds of millions if not billions of dollars of US taxpayer money meant to help children and disabled people. Convictions have happened.
“but we’re the party of good governance” which is exactly why I don’t fucking care. This is a single isolated case of fraud, being raised in bad faith by our opponents. there’s no systemic issues to address, so why should I get bogged down in this particular?

i am not a “don’t retweet, they just want attention!” person, but, in this specific case (and in the case of the various gov accounts) i am begging you to understand that miller knows all this shit and he is counting on you to correct him. they know. getting you to react and spread it is the point.
Immigrant-hating Stephen Miller talks about Americans being "first to harness the atom." But the first controlled, self-sustaining nuclear chain reaction was conducted by a team led by Italian immigrant Enrico Fermi, who didn't become a U.S. citizen until a year and a half later.

I get that I am out of step with much of this site on the question of 1/6 impeachment timing, and I’m fine with that; but I do find it funny that the argument rests on finding a well of decency among republicans and is made by those who mock other Dems for saying anything similar.

It is real funny to watch the crowd that continually mock Ds for "sternly worded letters" act like impeachment is some silver bullet when--w/o the ability to follow thourgh with conviction in the senate--it itself is nothing more than a form of one in our current political landscape
Impeachment talk again? Dem-only impeachment might or might not be a good idea, but it's not much of a check on a lawless president (as we saw in the first Trump impeachment!) - and there are plenty of other real checks Congress can try that a Dem House could implement.

I’ve always thought especially open primaries were really messed up. Making the party be saddled with whoever comes out of a primary process with people who aren’t even members makes no sense. It’s not democratic, it’s like a process that killed democracy and wears its skin like a suit.
Got into an argument with someone close to me today who thought political parties could themselves choose how they wanted to select their candidates. I just had to slap them around with the fact that no, actually, they are NOT free to choose that. Every state takes that freedom away via primaries.

What if we built a massive mutual aid system that we pay a certain portion of our wages into to help fund it and designated an elected entity to run it with oversight. We could call it something like a....'government,' maybe. The fees could be a 'tax,' as it were.
Mutual aid at a societal scale would only work if you assume that people generally do not care about fraud and that is extremely not the case.
