Senators Durbin, Hassan, Kaine, King, Klobuchar, Shaheen, and Welch voted to confirm a man to a lifetime judicial appointment days after the president who nominated him invaded a foreign country without even giving notice to Congress and the day after federal agents killed a person in the U.S.
BREAKING: The Senate confirmed the first lifetime judge of 2026. Seven Democrats inexplicably voted to confirm Alexander Van Hook to the Western District of Louisiana.

If all Dems/Independents voted no, given absent Republicans, the vote would've failed. nominationnotes.substack.com/p/with-democ...

Wrote a piece for @slate.com explaining that states have a long history of prosecuting federal officers when they allegedly use excessive force. Federal officers are only immune from such prosecutions when they act reasonably in carrying out lawful duties.
Minnesota Could Prosecute the ICE Shooter. Trump Can’t Pardon Him.
Shortly after an ICE officer shot and killed a woman in Minneapolis, city leaders began looking into whether the officer had violated state criminal law.

The Trump administration claims there was no need for Congress to authorize the military attack in Venezuela because the military was merely supporting a “law enforcement operation” (i.e., executing arrest warrants against the Maduros). That’s wrong on multiple counts. 1/20

And, as another reminder, when I buy PACER documents, I make them available to anyone through @free.law's RECAP extension, which then makes them available to all at CourtListener.

PACER itself should be free, but, until it is, everyone who can use RECAP to help make docs accessible should do so.

again, the supreme court did not write the constitution (or the declaration) and—despite what you may think—they don't have the monopoly on the interpretation of those documents.

the people have a say, and if the court is out of step with the people, that's a problem for the court, not the governed
i think to understand the meaning of the birthright citizenship clause to the framers of the 14th amendment, you have to understand significance of dred scott to the civil war republican party. dred scott wasn't just a bad ruling, it was understood as a rejection of the declaration itself.
