Latest BirdTrack data show Woodcock arriving en masse over the the last fortnight. Sadly, Woodcock are prone to colliding with buildings while they migrate. If you find a dead Woodcock in these circumstances, please add the record to BirdTrack or email details to [email protected]

Hey book lovers! Support your local library, of course. Also! Cool news! @bookshop.org has free shipping July 8-11. They also now sell ebooks, which is an excellent development. AND if you sign up for their email, there are periodic boook/ebook deals & I've snapped up many fine books that way. 💚📖🔥📘

The biggest delta I see from 20 years ago- this world we evolved to didn’t leave enough space for the dreamers.

That spot in our humanity that draws, reads each others zines, lays on the floor and listens to music with friends. We made everything so gamified we lost track of these crucial pieces.

African Elephants are my favorite land animal species, by far. During yesterday’s earthquake, my babies at the San Diego Zoo reacted to the quake, immediately protective of their most-vulnerable Community members. Humans could learn SO much from these beauties, if we’d just humble ourselves. 🐘🐘

A piece of collateral damage in this new age is lack of understanding of the value of infrastructure.

Quality infrastructure takes creativity, it’s fascinating, it’s crucial. We’ve lost the plot, relegating it to being described as a cost center.

Infrastructure is muscle, infrastructure is bone.

Want to go visit the national parks this year?
Sorry.
The reservation system is shut down, EMT personnel are gone, so don't get hurt or lost. No one can clean the bathrooms or cabins, so they'll be closed. Rangers are fired.

The isotope maps developed for this work will undoubtedly be used to track additional animals in the future. “It’s just a tour-de-force of data,” @widga.bsky.social said.

Exciting news! We’re thrilled to announce that tapir Yuna gave birth to a rare and endangered Malayan tapir calf Sunday night. The newborn, covered in distinctive white spots and stripes resembling a fuzzy walking watermelon, is only the second tapir born in our 120-year history.
