As someone who went through what the Franke kids did, you will never understand just how much people actively support and adore child abuse. People genuinely, fully believe that some children deserve to be flayed for Crimes. I'm actually surprised people cared about the Franke case.

Took me a bit to process how big a deal this report actually is--its thus far the only review to look at the entire body of currently available research. It took two years to conduct, stands at 1,000 pages, and completely contradicts the Cass Review and the common arguments for bans on this care.

I'm really noticing this because lately it's kind of getting to the point where corporations can't produce anything any more that has any juice whatsoever, because if the writing team even flicks its eyes in the direction of justice the C-suite will panic and issue a "100% less leftism" diktat

the thing teenage boys need to hear more than anything else is that it is actually okay if they don't grow up to be men at all. they don't have to feel invested in the political interests of men as a class, bc they dont have to BE men. it's okay if they grow up to be women, or something else :)

Young men aren't being told they're bad. They're no LONGER being told that Boys Will Be Boys & everyone else (girls & women) just has to deal w/ it.

Pretty sure that @riotlinguist.bsky.social is correct in asserting that the core anxiety of a patriarchal society "in crisis" is the unacknowledged yet implicitly understood truth: boys are Not Men, and Manhood is not anatomical destiny, but something to impose, mold ... groom boys into.
