A federal court order temporarily restricting ICE's lawless rampage would be reassuring if they didn't have a history of failing to comply with court orders.

Judge issues restraining order banning ICE retaliation against peaceful protesters
A temporary restraining order has been granted that will ban federal agents from retaliating against, arresting, detaining or using chemical irritants against people engaging in peaceful protest.

I find it relatively heartening, though, how they came in with “We can kill you at our whim” and have been forced to pivot to “Our widdle agents are so scared :( they’re bleeding internally :( this is just self-defense”

Like say what you will about the Gestapo but they didn’t whine like this
As you already well know by now, it's all lies.

Every single thing anyone in this entire administration says is a lie.

All of it.

Every time.

Yeah people don’t understand how insane the surge here is. The insane videos you see are examples of stuff happening dozens or hundreds of times daily. (Although, again, there are signs they are departing for outstate after being roundly rejected by the community).

An excellent piece.
For @msnownews.bsky.social, I wrote an article about how ICE Watch is grounded in sociological theories of violence prevention.

The reality is that most men will only commit public violence in extremely specific scenarios and ICE Watch disrupts the conditions necessary for escalation.
Opinion | I'm a Minneapolis sociologist who studies violence. Here's how ICE observers are helping.
Research into how violence occurs shows that disapproval from the people around you can help reduce it.

The images and stories coming out of Minneapolis are extraordinary. We can't say we did not know what was happening. Lots of people are putting their bodies on the line to make sure we do.
Getty photographer was tackled by about 50 agents while covering Whipple.

He threw his camera at another photographer to prevent it from being confiscated.

This is what I keep telling people who aren't from the Twin Cities. Much of the roots of the organized opposition they see now came out of the many days following George Floyd's murder where residents built connections with one another and patrolled their own streets because the MPD were AWOL.
I appreciate my neighbors so much. Physically too out of sorts for the community meeting today, but several are going and will report back to the group chat we formed 5 1/2 years ago to rotate shifts sitting outside with fire extinguishers.

Weird time to be alive, really.

Yes. Do you know how many families are being supported by their neighbors right now? Families afraid to leave home being fed by their neighborhoods; immigrant communities feeding the old hippies standing on their street corners with whistles in 10-degree snowstorms. They cannot break us

I went on a ride along with Will today because I was trying to understand how a mobile patrol works. If you've ever fantasized about being either Spider-Man or Ned Leeds I would recommend going to Defend612 to volunteer. (Spider-Man: patrol. Ned Leeds: dispatch/notetaking/plate checks.)
I don’t want to jinx anything, but ICE presence in South Minneapolis has been MASSIVELY down the last two days, and also far less militarized. Very few masks and uniforms, and efforts to disguise their vehicles. Community watch has been suffocating them, I think.

Yeah it’s well-documented ICE is doing this by now. I honestly had been waiting for them to try it with me. It’s illegal and they have to know they’re being filmed, but they feel like they have total impunity.
They’re doing this to other observers too. Have seen different vids.
The ICE guy I was tailing decided to show me he knows where I live. You can’t really see in the video, but as he drove past my place he reached out the window and pointed at my apartment. Real tough guy
