Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

Something I haven’t heard a single GOP asked that would have been asked of every Dem every day if the situation was reversed: You knew you were going to need 10 Dems in order to pass the CR. What did you do to reach out to Dems and get their vote?

Hard to convince younger generations, but for decades, Republicans went on and on about how two of the worst things imaginable were (1) state intervention in the market and (2) DC using federal troops against US states; both so bad the people should be ready for armed rebellion in case it happens.

It's important to note that people--a lot of people--were saying this at the time, and predicting exactly what is happening now, and were called anti-American lovers of terrorism for holding that position, mostly by people who are still given platforms today to tell us we're overreacting.
I'm more convinced than ever that the country lost its soul at Guantanamo.

It's where state sanctioned torture & permanent detention without due proces we're normalized.

It's patient zero for the bipartisan disregard for international norms and the rule of law that defines our moment.

“We’re the good guys,” I tell myself as a 6-year-old leukemia patient pees his pants in fear. I adjust my black mask and sunglasses in the mirror, making sure to hide my identity. “I am not evil,” I whisper.
Monstrous:

"They were crying in fear. One of the agents at one point lifted up his shirt, which displayed the gun that he was carrying....The 6-year-old boy was terrified to see the gun. He urinated on himself and wet all his clothing. No one offered him a change of clothing for many hours."
ICE arrested a 6-year-old boy with leukemia at immigration court. His family is suing.
A Honduran mother and her two children — ages 6 and 9 — sued the Trump administration over their arrest at Los Angeles Immigration Court, the first lawsuit challenging the arrests of children under a ...

I've said it before, I'll say it again: pitch it as increasing SCOTUS to at least 100 Justices, with randomly selected pools of 9 to hear each case, such that no single Justice matters so much.
There should be an earnest call to pack the courts by Dem leadership. It should be a thought out campaign to explain to the American people why it’s necessary.
It's becoming increasingly clear is that the right wing of this Supreme Court is extreme even among federal courts. The district courts and appellate courts keep appropriately halting this shit, expressing appropriate outrage, and trying to hold the line. Then SCOTUS blows it all up.

I will be damned if I allow a bunch of Confederate-waving January 6th apologists give the American people a lecture on flag waving.

There is ZERO reason to enter an argument about patriotism with people who still worship traitors to America 150+ years later.

It’s such a perfect encapsulation of how the right drives American media cycles that slightly-too-long school closures are still considered a huge liability for democrats while murdering hundreds of thousands of people with anti-vaxx propaganda is never mentioned as a downside of Republican rule.

If you sat down a random panel of Americans and told them what Republicans are currently doing, my guess is that the vast majority simply wouldn't believe you. It comes off like you're describing a Bond villain. The reality sounds wildly different & more extreme than what they hear organically.

“I just voted for Trump for the fascism and deporting toddlers with cancer who are US citizens, I didn’t know he’d also crash the economy”
Every Monday I wake up, fully cognizant of the fact that the President took a perfectly healthy economy back behind the shed and shot it, and then I go about my job for the week like that didn’t happen because I have no control over it. It makes me feel ridiculous.

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die.

Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.
