Grouchy normie. I walk dogs and see things.

I see the endless, all too obvious corruption of Trump, the GOP, & SCOTUS. I see American democracy in mortal peril.

I hate it that Putin is loving it.

If the Epstein files have proven anything, it’s that the justice system isn’t broken; it’s working exactly as it was built to do: to shield the rich and powerful from accountability while victims are buried, ignored, or silenced.

It’s day 25 of the ICE occupation of the Twin Cities.

The surge continues. Neighbors were kidnapped today outside grocery stores and going about their regular errands.

We continue to see heavy ICE activity throughout the metro area. Stay alert - we know many kidnappings happen very fast.

Free speech absolutism is the death of democracy.

The much lauded “marketplace of ideas” is just as corruptible as any market when there’s massive wealth concentration at the top.
Ultimately, the problem with single issue free speech crusaders is that "free speech" isn't a single issue.

There are questions of censorship, questions of whether something is actually "speech" or "violence," and questions of whether a demand for free speech is genuine.

He must be so proud.
Chief Justice John Roberts has led the Supreme Court for 20 years now.

In that time, his Republican-appointed majority has completely transformed America and its politics, with many of its most destructive opinions written by Roberts himself.
Taking stock of the Roberts court at 20—and the shadowy forces that built it
"Roberts will go down in history as the most destructive chief justice."

I want to be very clear here: these lying sacks of shit accused me and others of “censorship” for studying the Big Lie, and vaccine narratives, on social media. Taibbi etc denounced us in a Jim Jordan heading, and it led to years of subpoenas and lawsuits. That’s all it takes to be found “guilty”.

I hadn’t heard about this book til tonight but I am still firmly of the opinion that if you lived in this country and saw what happened that horrifying year, and what the federal govt and others did in response, and experienced either directly or indirectly the effect of a million plus people here…
A small (personal) example of this book’s intellectual dishonesty:

My father-in-law is reading In Covid’s Wake, and excitedly told me he found a passage where I’m quoted. The quote in question is me saying the FBI worked to censor speech on social media.

Huh? When did I say that?!

Btw this is one of the biggest reasons why it’s not as easy as people think to start up independent newsrooms or just be an indie journalist on substack. If you are actually holding powerful and rich people to account, you WILL need legal representation. Not a matter of whether but when
I say that as someone who has started newsrooms from scratch sometimes with two people - if you’re doing your job correctly you will need a lawyer because the first thing rich people do when you write something they don’t like is threaten you legally. It’s cheap for them and expensive for you
