Every piece of reporting I've seen on this is drastically understating the scale. These are from Grok's replies within a single minute. Time-to-reply is degrading because it has such a backlog of NCII/CSAM requests to fulfill. Conservatively I estimate it is producing more than 5000 of these per day

Today is Epiphany, when Western Christianity celebrates the three kings' visit to the infant Christ. Peter Bruegel the Elder's 'Adoration of the Kings' [National Gallery] is one of my favourite imaginings of that moment. It's also full of mystery.

In this terribly cold weather, people anywhere in the vicinity of Pollard's Hill can go to the New Horizon Centre (next to the Pollard's Hill library). It is a warm space where you can get a hot drink and chat to lovely people. The staff will look after you. Pls don't freeze.
I leave bowls of water out for the animals and birds. The bowls were frozen solid on Friday and the lumps of ice haven't defrosted a jot since then. No wonder I haven't gone out of the house for a week.
The Traitors NZ is fascinating. They are all really affable but, like all Antipodeans, say exactly what they think and mean. None of the passive-aggressive bullshit you get in the UK version.

Well, I have decided to do the same, by awarding membership of the Order of the Bear Cave to certain notable individuals in recognition of their achievements.

Medical peeps: my knees are seizing up after the fall. I assume this is the bruising, swelling, and, obviously, the deep grazes. What is the best thing for me to do ? Heat ? Cold ? Something else ? Any advice would be gratefully received.
Whilst neither of them give a shit that I am bloody and bruised, Lucy and Binks are both sleeping near me so that gives me a bit of comfort. They are not cats that cuddle so this is as good as it gets. 🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛
My pre-made festive food is going to come in handy tonight. I can't do much at the moment after the fall so just heating up some things I made and froze is going to be a godsend.

Only the UK could design a National Wealth fund so ineptly that its operating expenses were higher than the income it generated.

Absolutely par for the course for broken Britain.
I get that the UK Natl Wealth Fund has THREE objectives (generate growth & clean energy; crowd in private capital; generate a return for the taxpayer) — and also that it is still scaling up — but reporting a 14.2% loss is a very bad look: www.nationalwealthfund.org.uk/media/zygibc...

According to the Bank of England a penny in 1209 could buy 8 pints of ale. Perhaps even more ale in 1139 with goods inflation really starting only around 1180.

Whether an English publican would accept a Scottish penny is unclear.

The main factor preventing murderous attacks like this on civilians in other Eastern European cities is the resistance to Putin by the armed forces of Ukraine.
Russia attacked Kyiv with drones overnight, injuring 22 including two children, Mayor Klitschko said. Strikes hit residential buildings across seven districts, sparking fires in homes and cars. One person may be trapped under rubble in Dniprovskyi district.
