To be clear: the deal they voted on to move forward last night still needs to be formally voted on in the Senate and House. If the eight are your senators, they should be hearing from you this morning!

Republicans were overwhelmingly getting blamed for the shutdown.
There was no reason for the Democrats to cave to Trump on healthcare, except for the fact that they are wholly owned and operated by the health insurance lobby.

While I agree with this in theory, last night’s events will help those on SNAP and those (including the military) that are going cruelly unpaid.

The D’s that did not capitulate are “going to have to fight like hell” between now and 12/31 to get the ACA subsidies for the rest of America.

#FIGHT
What is the point of a political party that will not fight for the people?

I’m not surprised that they caved, but I am surprised that they waited until after gaining electoral momentum to do it.

Schumer & Jeffries should have the integrity to resign from their positions in leadership. They've failed, badly. Either they cannot control their caucuses or they're lying & secretly pushed this vote through behind the scenes.

Either way, their betrayal of the American people is indefensible.

The Dems who are caving are doing so not because their base wants them to,

not because the voters want them to,

not because the fed workers and SNAP recipients want them to…

they are caving because their DONORS want them to.

And that’s really all that ever matters to the corrupt

The current GOP lie is that they’re going to replace Obamacare with something better.

Bullshit. In all of the majorities they’ve had since Obamacare passed, they’ve never once tried to replace it.

They’ve tried to repeal it a whole bunch, but never actually make it better.

One of the unacknowledged advantages of this awful era is that it's revealing for all to see the putrid connections between great wealth and great power.

The intentions of the oligarchs are fully exposed and more blatant than ever.

But remember: We outnumber the oligarchs.

It's insane that Republicans are saying that they can't extend healthcare subsidies because it will hurt the insurance companies.

The insurance industry made $71.3 billion in profits last year.

I guess you'd better not get sick and lose your house over it.

Right on!👊
I’ve explained the Substack strategy. At length. Why I use it. Why it works. Why it’s part of the fight. But every day, more people crawl out of the woodwork to tell me what I’m supposed to be doing. As if they’re braver. Smarter. More strategic. 1/

Health insurance is a legalized scam. One-third of many people's salary and it pays for nothing until you've already shelled out additional for a deductible that's well into the thousands. Even then, they may just say "No, we're not paying."

It's time for universal healthcare.

Do you remember when the White House had good taste?

Back when the art had meaning, the rooms had soul, and the President had both.

I’m trying to wrap my head around this. To me, from a historical preservation standpoint, the plan to “archive and store” the contents of the east wing should have been announced in JULY! So…those of us concerned about the significance of the art could be assured our history was not bulldozed.

I mean you could negate insurance companies completely and do what other countries do and provide universal healthcare.

Which would work out cheaper in the long run.
