Should Gibb be sacked? yes, obviously. He's an abomination of basic journalistic standards. His GB News channel spreads conspiracy theory & disinformation. His Jewish Chronicle newspaper spreads invented stories. He is plainly trying to undermine the BBC so it's as bad as everything else he touches.

There are many subtle and complex arguments one can have about the future of the BBC — but I guarantee you that no other channel or streaming service will be as committed to factual programming, children’s education, history shows, religious discussion, poetry, arts, or state of the nation debate

Maybe Keir should demand the heads of major US news networks any time they imply Britain is on the brink of civil war or that we live under sharia law. Or does it not work both ways?

The fact that the BBC has made serious culpable errors does not negate the point that there is a real and concerted right-wing media campaign to destroy it. Both points can be true at the same time and the campaign would not end even if the errors did.

I have written some stuff about BBC/Public Service broadcasting which I'll start putting out soon. I don't think there's enough public policy debate - when I was doing broadcasting/Charter Review in the regulator and Government there was an industry around it. Now everyone has moved on to "tech".

I spent nearly 25 years working for the BBC and emerged glad to be no longer working for it. But, 2 contradictory observations seem likely this morning. 1. Some of the criticisms are merited. 2. They’re being manipulated by bad actors who don’t care about the UK or the BBC.

Recently I went to a fascinating presentation about efforts to create a universal identifier to enable individuals to be tracked through the justice system. As all the agencies involved have different & incompatible databases it’s no surprise that ‘a paper-based’ system makes errors more likely

The UK & others have been doing their bit to help people in Gaza.

To those still screaming 'complicit in genocide': you know nothing. Stop these childish games.

Here's the UK foreign secretary literally standing with the aid waiting to get in.

Two retired men I know can't spend their pensions fast enough as their pots keep going up in value. But they'll still moan about Rachel Reeves and potential tax rises/new taxes on them while pondering voting Reform next time.

My wealth has increased by 25% since June. I have done absolutely nothing to earn this. I just put it in a tracker fund. I will be taxed on that gain at a lower rate than during the Thatcher government.
I’d pay more tax to make this country better and stop Putin in his tracks.

But this is completely false. There is no such policy.

As well as energy efficiency we need to consider spatial efficiency. In cities where the supply of space for travel is constrained, making the dominant mode of transport one where a single occupant occupies 10m2 just doesn’t make sense.

The floodwaters now seem to have drained, but there is a large amount of mud and silt deposited on the carriageway and pavements of Gallery Road, Burbage Road and Turney Road. We are pressing Thames Water to make sure that there is a proper cleanup.
October 17, 2025 at 10:40 AM
Update: The mains have been isolated and there is no flooding to the carriageway now. However, Gallery Road is to remain closed until repairs have been completed. The repair team are on site but have not started to excavate so we do not know how long it will take to complete the repairs.
Very disappointed to learn that there’s a big flood on Gallery Road in Dulwich Village due to yet another catastrophic water main burst - the responsibility of Thames Water. Gallery Road is currently closed at the south circular. We’re on the case with TW.
