I've assembled a list of 40+ outlets that I find valuable, prominently featuring:

* nonprofit, co-operative, and independent news rooms,
* outlets relevant to Petaluma and the Bay Area,
* international outlets,
* and, yes, a selection of for-profit outlets.

Whenever anyone says how much of the U.S. economy is tied to AI right now, I'm like...damn, what if a single rich person had any idea other than "try to zero out labor costs through theft."

I went in to present before the Library Commission for the first time today, and it was lovely. But because it's still kind of a new community to me, I was nervous.

And apparently nervous Robin is very bad at calibrating the strength of her handshakes 🤣

I don't care that you did it at the last minute. I care that you happened to put a single iota of thought into it. Even if that single iota is your last brain cell hanging on with the power of Red Bull

Wanna give it a try? I'm happy to help answer any questions you may have.

so the devs are going all in defending Jesse Singal and making this platform a safe space for TERFs

I know posters generally dislike Mastodon & understand why, but the influx of bksy shitposters this week has really improved the vibe + the Phanpy app also does wonders making it poster friendly

As the Supreme Court term begins, keep this framework in mind: Autocratic Legalism.

Instead of “rule of law” (law constrains the power), we get “rule by law” (law as a weapon for power).

Authoritarians usually have to install allies. Trump started his second term with that step already complete.
The only effective opposition is through the language of morality and documented harm—not legal technicalities that can be swept away with a 6–3 vote.” The text is centered on a neutral background, with “morality” and “documented harm” slightly emphasized to underscore the moral and empirical contrast with “legal technicalities.”

This is a huge problem and part of why @civic.band exists -- we're indexing minutes data from 809 (and growing) municipalities, backed up to searchable sqlite DBs, a CDN, and a git repo of the OCR'd text.

If you (or anyone) wants to explore 9 million pages of civic data: civic.band

New: Apple banned an app that simply archived videos of ICE abuses. Rather than other apps that record ICE official's real-time location, Eyes Up is to "preserve evidence until it can be used in court." Videos from TikTok etc. Every submission manually reviewed

Cute coyote alert! We caught these playful pups on our wildlife camera at Little Black Mountain Preserve. Coyotes live in close-knit family groups, working together to hunt, defend their territory, and teach pups survival skills. Coyotes keep small rodent populations in check and clean up carrion.

Accessibility is popular, it's rare I meet anyone who thinks it doesn't matter.

Usually it's the systemic failures that make us de-prioritize it, things like perceived tight timelines, low budgets, lack of resources.

Regardless, the future world is accessible. There's too many of us that want it
