@ezrakleinbot.bsky.social I listened to your Martin Gurri episode. He claims that the Biden admin’s alleged violation of the 1st amendment caused him to vote for Trump. I wonder what he has to say about everythingTrump is doing to chill and silence free speech?

The Patel nomination is the clearest signal yet that Trump intends to use the FBI and the Justice Department for purely personal purposes and to subvert reality to such an extent that it will change Americans’ understanding of what justice even is.

We’re Entering a World Where the Rule of Law Is Turned Inside-Out
Trump’s vengeance-minded administration will have no blunter instrument than a corrupted Department of Justice.

Whole thread up and down is worth a read for any aspiring writers who don't understand this stuff. But this is the core. Money flows to the writer. I have self-published, I have published through small trad presses, but vanity publishing is an evil scam preying on the vulnerable.
This is to say:
if you are a writer and are being offered the opportunity to publish your book, know whether you are involved in a relationship with a traditional publisher or a vanity publisher. One will be offering to pay you for your work, the other will be asking you to pay them for theirs.

Just my 2 cents. But my goal is to ignore the trolls. Give them zero attention. Block them if they annoy me.

I think the worst thing we can do on this site is re-create the ad hominem/ personal attacks that occur across comments on Twitter/insta/tiktok/ etc

The incoming administration may or may not reduce the size or scope of government.

But it will absolutely become the biggest protection racket the world has ever seen.

It's funny how badly Trumpers want to be friends with us.

"Don't hate people over different beliefs!"

"Wow, you're gonna break up with someone over politics"

Meanwhile those beliefs *ARE* hating us. Labeling us vermin, taking our civil rights, calling for our extermination.

Fuck that.

One depressing lesson from 2024 is that the best strategy for a political party is to break stuff and lie.

Thwart the function of government at every turn. Run ads that say, "Trump let 18 billion convicted murderers cross the border," "inflation is up 6000%," "Trump sold all our cows to China."
Here's the post mortem no one's brave enough to write: We actually have a very clear and recent example of how a party comes back from a clear and convincing electoral defeat, and that's the way the Republicans adapted to their loss in 2020.

This is malpractice, @nytimes.com. A casual reader will come away from this hed/subhed w/zero awareness that these institutions tried to hold *Trump* accountable for documented malfeasance in keeping w/rule-of-law-bound procedures, and won't learn that *this* is why he's targeting them.
I see the New York Times is already cheering on Trump’s attempts to knock down the “stubborn obstacles” put in front of him by the deep state

I’m not even making that up

Anyone you see on your timeline right now praising RFK Jr. is a person you never need to take seriously on anything ever again.

It is difficult to overstate just how extreme, conspiratorial, and insane RFK’s views are, on vaccines, microchips & beyond. He’s Alex Jones in a suit.

RFK announcement puts a fine point on something I've been trying to articulate and is a theme of the Trump years. It's something I've wrestled with and that a lot of Dem messaging has gotten wrong. Part of what Trump does is constantly divide the country along the lines of pro-system and anti-system

If Trump is going to take credit for all the good things Biden did for the economy, maybe dems should play dirty and introduce bills to repeal the IRA, the infrastructure act, the CHIPS act, and the ACA. The GOP wants to do it anyway, so make them vote for the repeal in the lame duck session.

free idea for Thom Tillis and Susan Collins: resist Trump most usefully by resigning and letting Democratic governors appoint your replacements

"I was shocked by the announcement" -- Susan Collins (R-MA)

"I'm surprised by this particular nomination" -- Lisa Murkowski (R-AK)

"It’s gonna take a lot of work to get to 50" -- Thom Tillis (R-NC)

Disturbing scenario: Trump will take credit for the recovery that is being handed to him, then say his anti-immigrant agenda is driving it.

As @pkrugman.bsky.social points out, Dems leaving GOPers good economies is the story of our politics.

hydrate
tell your people you love them

Yes, this will actually take 5 days. After that two days of drying. I’m not making this up. Nothing happens. Really. You’ll see.

Anyway, off we go!
