I feel like kind of a square talking about “good engagement” but the quality of discussion in the replies for my lovecraft post was so much better than you’d get on twitter, even back in the before times
I mentioned on Threads that I like Bluesky and someone who had tried and abandoned it asked me why I liked it. This was my response.

hadn't come across this theory about why so many myths about the pleiades mention there being seven sisters when only six are visible: because the root story may be 100,000 years old

The world’s oldest story? Astronomers say global myths about ‘seven sisters’ stars may reach back 100,000 years
Cultures around the world call the Pleiades constellation ‘seven sisters’, even though we can only see six stars today. But things looked quite different 100,000 years ago

The thing about "Istanbul, Not Constantinople" is that it has had three separate lives in popular culture, and everyone who lived through any of the three has had it lodged in their head permanently ever since.

As I am being (happily) reminded in my mentions today.

Fun film fact. In Escape from New York (1981) they used reflective tape on a miniature model of the city & filmed it under black light to approximate 'cutting-edge' wireframe CG, which would have blown the budget at the time.
