Albany's streak of "persistent" weather ends today with a low of 67 and a high in the mid 90s.

The past 10 days were the longest run of lows >= 69F on record, and 6 days of >= 70F is something we haven't seen since 2013.

Related: I'm excited for cooler air Friday night. #NYwx

This would kill all weather model development - RRFS, HAFS, and WoFS - in NOAA. These are activities that the private sector can’t support; they leverage these models to train & benchmark their own.

I wish the headline didn’t just focus on climate as it limits the audience who will listen.
BREAKING from @science.org: The Trump admin is seeking to kill nearly all climate research at NOAA, its climate science agency.

Its near-final budget proposal would end all NOAA research labs, academic institutes, and regional climate centers. And it wants to fully end the NOAA Research division.

Pretty easy to see where snow showers yesterday and last night whitened the ground around NY. Also, lake effect in April anybody? #NYwx

February 3-12th, 2007:
A substantial lake-effect snow event impacted western New York. Long-lived bands sat over the Tug Hill Plateau, and by the 12th, portions of Oswego, Oneida, and Lewis counties measured accumulations of over 120 inches (Redfield peaked at 141").

It's been a *really* rough time for local TV meteorologists. One in my hometown was just fired for acknowledging reality on her personal social media accounts (if, profanely). I hope @samkuffelwx.bsky.social lands on her feet somewhere. From a distance, one wonders if this is an excuse to cut costs.

About 80 record lows.
The big ones - in Deep South- driven by snow cover which significantly accelerates cooling.

While cloud-free views of Lake Erie have been hard to come by, it's apparent that there's been an increase in ice coverage over the last couple days' worth of frigid weather. Despite the ice, a swath of 12 - 21" of lake effect snow fell east of the lake #NYwx

The Lake Erie snow band is flying north as winds shift SW. A burst of 2-3”/hr snow rates is likely in downtown Buffalo around lunch time. The snow looks to shift north of downtown this afternoon, but watch for it to swing back south towards the end of the PM commute. #NYwx
