Seems to me that, for the most part, police unions have historically not been very ... well, pro public.
I'd be quick to add that a union's position is not always that of its rank and file.

We gotta love and support our neighbors. We gotta keep our communities in our hearts. We gotta unlearn "I earned X, why should Y just get it for free?" and replace it with "I have X, how can we help Y realize that same comfort?" Strength is not a show of cruelty, strength is uplifting compassion.
