I knew enough about the history of fascism to know that it would be very stupid.

I had no fucking idea, not the remotest intuition, not the feeblest imagining, that it would be anywhere /close/ to /this/ stupid.

When I wrote for Law & Order, we fake-murdered more people on all three shows than were actually murdered in NYC that year. And that was just three shows on one network.

Murder mysteries make good stories. But they’re just stories.

You’re safer than you think.

Affect = fuck around

Effect = find out
And yes, I still struggle with affect vs effect

I know one is the “fcuk around” and the other is the “find out”

But which is which?!?

A huge fuck you to every grown-up who told me as a child that accountability and integrity are critical to success in life. Turns out the secret to becoming the richest man alive was actually promising absurd bullshit and never delivering.

Texas passed a law banning books with *any* mention of sexual content. Then the Bible got banned. The author of the bill now claims to have a kingly power to grant exemptions — granting just one, for the Bible.

This is not how legislation works. But it is how fascism does.
Texas making embarrassing international headlines again.

ICYMI- Canyon ISD recently banned the Bible from libraries after trying to apply & follow HB900. It was unbanned after the bill’s author clarified that the sexual content in the Bible is exempt from HB900. 🙄

So, the other day I started to whisper and my wife asked why I was whispering? I told her I didn't want Mark Zuckerberg to hear us.
I laughed.
My wife laughed.
Alexa laughed.
Siri laughed.

It appears that a good many south-Asian-Americans are newly discovering that the people who always go on about Aryan supremacy don’t actually mean, you know, *Aryan* Aryan.

Jimmy Carter was born before the New Deal. Before the electrification of the south. More than two decades before Jackie Robinson broke the color line in baseball. He was 30 when Brown v Board was decided. He was 44 when MLK was assassinated. After his presidency, he had a 42 year retirement.

I thought about it for a day and I guess my main view about Jimmy Carter is that he’s the only guy who seems to have felt adequately guilty about having been President and then tried his best to make up for it

“hole in the ozone layer” levels of erasure. my mom was a project manager who busted her ass for years to make sure IBM was ready for Y2K and completely succeeded, only for it to get turned into a late night joke. funny how the stories of mass collective action to avoid disaster rarely get told

I spent nine months upgrading over TEN THOUSAND desktops at a F500 client. The grand total was over SEVENTY THOUSAND applications upgraded.

Y2K "didn't live up to the hype" because the industry busted ass to duct tape everything first.

People feared the computer glitch would mean "the end of the world as we know it." Thankfully, Y2K didn't live up to the hype after years and billions of dollars were spent on painstaking preparation.
