that's part of the problem with bigotry, fascism, threat. it interferes our ability to continue our own natural "character arcs" bc we're instead forced to focus on this other, outside crap. it stymies our growth and exhausts our potential. it's not impossible to work around, but it's *tiring*

so as part of my persistent insomnia, i read most of hello sunshine in one sitting. i have a lot of thoughts, though a lot of them (unsurprisingly) ended up being around sky. i was blindsided by the offhand reveal, and felt a little uncompelled at first, but it grew on me as i thought about it more
someone on Tumblr pointed out that there's only one direct reference to sky being trans in hello sunshine; I'll be honest, in 2021 when I wrote her, she was kind of like wish fulfillment. her friends and fam accept her unconditionally, her insecurities have nothing to do with gender, she's safe

i played haven (2020) for the first time. for some reason it didn't occur to me that a het romance game which stapled gay options on after-the-fact would feel like they just pretended a butch woman was a man and made no changes to the characterization. but in retrospect it seems obvious
