After the private equity firm Alden Capital purchased the Chicago Tribune some years ago, many of its best people left or were pushed out, diminishing the paper and its importance.

But those who remained do great work, like Mr Pratt, here. The first draft of a terrible history.
64 days in Chicago: The story of Operation Midway Blitz. Our team fanned out to cover the before, during and after of the federal government’s months-long raid on an American city. This is worth your time to understand the United States today

64 days in Chicago: The story of Operation Midway Blitz
President Donald Trump’s federal immigration enforcement operation led to most surreal autumn in Chicago history. What happened during those 64 days will be remembered for a long time.

A few reminders about the SCOTUS immunity decision for Presidents:

It does not provide immunity for prior crimes.

It does not provide immunity to the President's cabinet.

Similar to Roe v. Wade, it can be overturned in the future.

Just a reminder that ICE didn't exist until 2002. It's not some longstanding institution that must be maintained. It was created as a knee-jerk reaction to 9/11, and it could be gotten rid of as easily as it was created.

QUICK! To the Search Engine!
There's a [former?] journalist named Olivia Nuzzi who covered presidential campaigns. She had an affair with RFK Jr. while covering his 2024 run and also with Mark Sanford in 2020 (the hiking-in-Argentina SC governor), according to her ex-fiancé, Ryan Lizza.

That's what they're talking about.

I don't know why we still call them ICE and treat them as a legitimate organization. They are an armed Militia and should be designated as a terrorist group. No other legal force in America wears masks and strips people of due process. They are a terrorist organization

I am a giant nerd. I'm aware that tap water is often contaminated, so I use the ZeroWater filtration system because it removes PFAS. Everyone always says 'oh, I just use a Brita, it's fine.' So I decided to do a lil experiment! I dug up an old Brita pitcher and bought a new filter for it. Then 1/

CNN has a panel talking about Epstein and the host just mentioned (almost as an aside!) that one of the guys is a lawyer defending Ghislaine Maxwell. And rather than being a guest who's grilled about the case, he's treated like any other panelist who just happens to be minimizing the crimes.

Last week, Boston received a letter from AG Bondi threatening to prosecute officials and withhold funds unless we cooperate with carrying out mass deportations.

The US Attorney General asked for a response by today, so here it is: stop attacking our cities to hide your administration’s failures.

I dunno, Merriam-Webster, I’ve been eeking out a lot lately.
Not to add to the discourse, but…

It’s ‘toe the line,’ not ‘tow the line.’
It’s ‘free rein,’ and not ‘free reign.’
It’s ‘eke out,’ not ‘eek out.’
It’s ‘sleight of hand,’ not ‘slight of hand.’
It's ‘Anchors aweigh,’ and not ‘Anchor's away!’
