Same with scientists. Each "fun" generative AI thing shared makes me a little less confident in the quality of your research.
Deleted a repost of a thread.

Looking closer, the person is comfortable sharing AI images & video. Was the thread also AI? Was it accurate?

I’d rather not take the chance and share it.

Journalists, keep this in mind. “Fun” AI videos & images undercut your credibility.

A really sad follow-up to this story — Alexis Erlinmeyer, one of the trans federal intelligence workers who was fired, has died of a pulmonary embolism. She was 31. Her family is burying her under her deadname, so friends are fundraising for an accurate memorial: www.gofundme.com/f/in-memory-...
NEW—In late Feb, Chris Rufo published leaked chats between queer/trans employees at US intel agencies. Then Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard said she’d fire all involved.

I spoke to chat members who were fired, are on admin leave, and who kept their jobs about the new lavender scare:

Chris Rufo published the chats. Staffers say a new "lavender scare" is upon us.

The reason you go scorched-earth on this is the same reason we should have gone scorched-earth on impoundment; you can't stop it from happening, but you absolutely need to stop it from becoming a normal part of politics. You have to draw a line.

So I am going to say something about romance as a genre.

A lot of people think that romance is ignorable because <insert thing they think about romance> and romance authors don't count because <insert thing they think about romance>.

This thread is not about whether you have to like romance.

12YO girl signed up to do “stand up comedy” at the talent show. 13YO boy decided to heckle her. Teacher started to tell the boy to leave her alone, but the 12YO comedian said “no, no, let him go, this is the closest he’s ever going to get to having a conversation with a girl.”

genAI is STOLEN WORK. Using genAI in *any* capacity is trafficking in stolen work, supporting the plunder. Period. These facts aren't even denied by the AI companies, they just find ways to make that plunder seem benevolent. Using their product enables that lie. Stop enabling the theft of our work.
"we only use AI for coming up with ideas" no you don't. you use AI to come up with the a bland version of other people's ideas. there is currently NOBODY more replaceable than you

Today I have seen the (correct, important) argument that not all parts of the world have access to public libraries, and also the (incorrect, weird) assertion that only the US does. Here's an interactive map if you want to check avail stats for a given country (may not give full picture of course).

"And I can. I do."

The witch said nothing.

"But I shouldn't have to!"

"No."

The witch held the hero as he wept.

"No, you shouldn't."
