tldr, no, I don’t think that “oh, they’re just using it in place of google” is really a good shield of criticism for using AI when the research and brainstorming phase is one of the most fundamental blocks of making something, no matter how much you dislike how time consuming it is.
Research and early development is part of the process. I get good, better, or entirely new ideas while doing the barebones research into artwork that I'm starting. Automating that with Gen AI is shooting yourself in the foot, because you're sort of removing a big chunk of the brainstorming process.
