My dad abhors any negative comments about immigrants. Asked him recently why he’s so strong on it: ‘Because we’re always happy to take the rich and clever ones. Which means it’s not about disliking immigrants. It’s about disliking the poor and vulnerable. And that’s a bad human instinct.’

I remember reading a report years ago about what Ireland could expect, and it has proven to be very accurate. It wasn't that we'd get much more rain as a result, but the rainfall we got would be heavier, more extreme. And today we face yet another day of darkness and torrential downpour. 2/3

#Bluetongue Virus's arrival in Ireland is a #climate change story as well as an animal welfare concern.

Endemic in sub-tropics, but unheard of in Europe until the late '90s. Changing humidity and temperature allowed the infected midges to survive in ever more northerly areas.

Despite a 16% jump in nitrates levels in Irish rivers in the last year alone, it's looking like the derogation (special dispensation to pollute more) will *still* be extended by another 3 years.

Help farmers financially if needs be, but killing our rivers is just WRONG.
