Helen Craik (1751–1825), Gothic novelist & friend of Robert Burns, died 200 years ago #OTD, 11 June. Craik published 5 novels but no poetry. In 1919, excerpts of her poems appeared in a newspaper, but the source – a notebook Craik presented to a family friend – disappeared…

Being part of the whole Unbound saga has not been fun; one consolation has been the support of the many other authors involved.
And so, in that spirit, we've put together a list of some of the great books that now need publishers and agents. Please do share!

Hi @davidpintod.bsky.social, are you aware that Meta has stolen literally millions of books to train their generative AI?

Please stand up for the intellectual property rights of British (Hendon!) authors, share our protest, and ask META to #DoTheWriteThing and pay for our work.

Been down at Meta's UK HQ to join a protest by @societyofauthors.bsky.social about the theft of books for the purposes of AI. A multi-billion dollar company using books then not paying for them stinks & is in no-one's interests.

When individuals download things illegally, the UK government condemns them, so why, when wealthy corporations steal the work of writers and artists, does it think that the right response is to change the law and make it easier for the thieves to get away with it? #DoTheWriteThing #MetaBookThieves

An overdue detour to the Rhins of Galloway to see Doon Castle Broch, crumbling on its rocky promontory overlooking the North Channel. The Iron Age structure, about 9m in diameter, is the best preserved example of a handful of similar sites across western Galloway.

One foot in Eden still, I stand
And look across the other land.
The world’s great day is growing late,
Yet strange these fields that we have planted
So long with crops of love and hate…

Big shout out to Stephan from Brighton Permaculture Trust, getting everyone to work hard together in the sunshine today, planting our new orchard. It’s going to be lovely: peaches, plums, pears, apricots and mulberries. Hard work, good fun, delicious lunch and blue skies. Thanks a million!
