If you read my newsletter "News from the Grid" you know I've been working on a zine collecting reviews of films I watched in October to celebrate Halloween. Well here it is!

A mockup of my zine "Halloween Horror Marathon". It's in DL format (one third of A4). The mockup shows the zine lying open, showing its front and back cover. The front cover shows a ghostly figure draped in a black cloth holding a big animal skull in front of its face. The figure is made of scanlines and hovering over a CRT TV, the screen of which is bleeding. The title of the zine is placed above the figure in bold distressed black font, the word "Halloween" is written in a red script. The back cover is all black and shows white text reading "This is a keepsake of the scares I had in Halloween of 2025. Read it at your own risk..." in an all caps sans serif. At the bottom right of the cover, near the spine is another CRT TV showing a ghost appearing in front of TV static. There are details meant to make the zine look like a VHS case: slits to grab the tape and the tape appearing underneath as well as folds and cracks due to aging on the "box". A mockup showing an interior spread of the zine. Both zines are composed similarly: the film poster sits at the top in the centre of the page, underneath is general info about the film (title, release date, director, genre and themes and whether or not I watched it with my fiancée). There's also my review and an assessment of how scary it was. Behind the posters there is TV static covering the full width of the spread, going from the top and gradually disappearing as it gets closer to the text. The left page is for the film "Let the Right One In", the right page is for "Candyman".

If you ask it a question that’s been answered correctly several times, it has a higher likelihood of getting it right, but it’s still random. And if there is no info for it to plagiarize, it is ALWAYS wrong.

it doesn’t want or understand anything. It’s a weighted random number generator, generating 0’s and 1’s that make up text or pixels, in large quantities that feel plausible. It does not know what you or it are saying. It does weights based off of what other people say a lot within it’s data set.
