so our "reward" for living thru a global pandemic is the worst governments ever. all over.

Alberta; continuing the ensure that Ontario does not have the worst premier in Canada.
a reminder for toronto. the premier has ordered every government worker back to the office starting tomorrow. without any amendments to transit etc. so it's going to be chaos.

also legislature isn't sitting until march, maybe? because those rules don't apply to Ford.

Some might say it was the only appropriate reaction. Those same people might suggest we start getting upset again, like now.
Being profoundly upset about the 51st state stuff was not an unreasonable reaction.

toronto won't zone these, for 'reasons'. which is a shame because it would allow gentle density into traditional neighbourhoods but NIMBYS always getting their way.
NEW: This is very interesting — Seattle City Council has allowed 8-unit buildings up to 3 storeys, or 10 apartments up to 4 storeys (they call them “stacked flats”) if they add green features (like bioswales or green roofs) or preserve trees, in all residential zones across the entire city!

When he finally shows up, they vote him into office.

Twice.

one of the more frustrating part of this 'super power'... watching young people make the same stupid mistakes you did even when you offered them the advice not to.
Convinced that the older you get the more you can see the future.
You’ve learned patterns, human behaviour, and you’ve seen it all before.
This power provides no solace.

maybe in this new year we can stop glorifying people living in their trucks on youtube not because they are making it work but because i'd expect the majority are doing so because rents are so ridiculous because greed.

Remember when Doug Ford tried to get rid of the last shreds of rent control a little while ago and we yelled at him so much he was like "Whoops who said that, couldn't be me" and backed down? We should be doing that all the time when they pull that type of fuckery

i work retail and i'll admit that the holiday season drains me. so my plans tonight, stay in my big sweater, keep my feet on the sofa, heat up some carbs and open a bottle of bubbly i bought a few weeks ago so i didn't have to shop this week.

A city in decline is good business for people and politicians whose imagination doesn’t stretch any further than “law and order”. And when the necessary fear doesn’t exist to support them, they manufacture it. But, in Toronto, there’s an added wrinkle: an OK Mayor with awful comms.
Inbox: "A new Liaison Strategies survey ... has identified a profound disconnect ... While official police data from Toronto, Peel, and York Regions highlights historic declines in high-profile crimes like homicide and auto theft, the vast majority of residents believe these crimes are surging"

It's the last day of a busy holiday season for retail workers. And your lack of planning does not constitute an emergency.

Brent Carver was becoming a big deal in theatre, he was in Stratford where i, a teen, worked at a small local gallery. He bought a piece & as the artists were living we asked for a name, address etc in case the artist wanted to show the piece. anyway i got his name and for address 'the theatre'.
Right folks. Feeling rather down at the moment so bringing back an oldie

What I always hear: “We can’t afford to pay our workers more than $15 an hour.”

What I never hear: “We can’t afford to pay our CEO millions of dollars a year.”

Funny how that works.

here's your PSA. if you have an asthmatic person in your life, dial way back on the cologne/perfume/air freshener etc. it can cause an attack.

also if you use so much it transfers onto my clothes while they hang on the hook at work, it's too much.

This guy was running for president and I'm certain that due to his family name he would have received votes.
I've seen people reference the claim that RFK Jr. believes the 1918 influenza came from lab research, but since no one provided a link, I was skeptical that even he could be that stupid. Boy, was I wrong.

This is perfect. The DOJ's embarrassing snafu with disappearing redactions was the fault of Elon Musk. Musk cancelled government subscriptions to Adobe programs that would have made the redactions permanent. What a pack of fools.

i'd say reliability more than safety is the issue here. we're seeing long shutdowns on a fairly regular basis. but it's a cart/horse thing. you can't expect riders if the service is routinely subpar.
