This goes well beyond humanities and classrooms. Art is not just an array of pixels on a screen. Physics is not just a sequence of LaTeX commands. Consciousness is not just an emission of tokens. The whole field is has mistaken byproducts for products.
This is what's so baffling about so many suggestions for AI in the humanities classroom: they mistake the product for the point. Writing outlines and essays is important not because you need to make outlines and essays but because that's how you learn to think with/through complex ideas.
I'm sure many have said this before but I'm reading a student-facing document about how students might use AI in the classroom (if allowed) and one of the recs is: use AI to make an outline of your reading! But ISN'T MAKING THE OUTLINE how one actually learns?

People travelled in the medieval period. The idea that medieval people were bound to the land, living their lives in one place, in one village, is a fiction of modernity.

Races and faiths mingled, migrants migrated, merchants, scholars, and pilgrims haunted the lanes and high ways of the world.
What is common knowledge in your field but shocks outsiders?

We don't all have the same number of bones or muscles. There's an average, I guess. We all kind of cluster around it. Some muscles are pretty rare. Some people just invent their own artisanal bones.
Court ordered therapy almost never works and usually makes the problem worse.

Can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make them stop harming their kid/spouse, the kid/spouse won’t rebuild the lost affection, and mostly abusers just learn to be more efficient and cruel abusers.

A lot of people who've never experienced truly dangerous heat before are encountering it for the first time, and we desperately need more public education to help people adapt. (This is a particularly big issue for older people).
What I learned while living in Las Vegas, NV and being from East Coast and therefore not being in the habit of carrying water around is that its very hard to tell when heat is negatively affecting your well being

one time my friend sent me a video of this girl going down a hyperfixation rabbit hole learning how to lino print and said “feels like something you would do” and I was like you’re never gonna believe this… and sent her a pic of all the lino prints I had spread out on the floor

the whole world would be better if every new advance in technology was evaluated on the following three metrics:

1. How could this be manipulated to endanger someone fleeing an abusive relationship?

2. Will this help or harm trans people?

3. Will this help or harm sex workers?
If you think that requiring people to link their real names/identities to their online posts is a good idea that will make people more civil, I'm begging you to please read the 15+ years of work showing that it doesn't work and it endangers vulnerable people.

apparently in Alabama there’s a law that says if you plan to do something in another state that would be illegal to do in Alabama, that is itself a crime. essentially allowing prosecution for a phantom conspiracy, where no one ever planned an actual crime.
NEW: Alabama can prosecute those who help women travel for abortion, AG says in court filing.

"The right to travel ... does not grant Plaintiffs the right to carry out a criminal conspiracy simply because they propose to do so by purchasing bus passes or driving cars." tinyurl.com/2trn9ywz

It's not so much that downtowns are fucked.

It's more that real estate developers went on a cocaine-fueled binge of building fucktonnes of office space that everyone knew at the time was never going to be needed. They should take responsibility for their foolish decisions.
