NEW: In the last few hours, Minnesota authorities warned people against attending protests, with a killer on the loose.

This is the current view of the Minnesota State Capitol in St. Paul.

DEFIANCE. 👏

I wrote about Elizabeth Warren co-sponsoring KOSA even AFTER Marsha Blackburn said KOSA was necessary to "protect minor children from the transgender in our culture." There's simply no excuse for Warren not to understand what KOSA will do. www.techdirt.com/2023/10/03/s...
Senator Elizabeth Warren Supports Bill To Silence LGBTQ+ Voices
At this point, any Senator signing on to support KOSA cannot deny that the bill has been written explicitly to suppress LGBTQ+ voices. The Heritage Foundation said so directly earlier this year. An…

Looks bad but the Supreme Court has made clear, in decisions (Skilling, McDonnell, Percoco) and by conduct (Thomas, Alito), that bribery is legal, so 🤷‍♂️
Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) is has been radiating corruption for years, yet has managed to skate by. He deserves his day in court, of course, but no matter the verdict, the people of New Jersey, and the US Senate, deserve better.
Senator Robert Menendez Is Indicted in New York
Mr. Menendez, a New Jersey Democrat, was charged six years after his trial in a different corruption case ended in a hung jury.

Presumably there'd be Congressional interest in a private citizen monitoring an ally's military in real-time, chatting with the enemy about it, then thwarting the ally. But the GOP House will protect Musk, and the Senate will likely continue its proud tradition of doing nothing.

A lot of my fellow YIMBYs are quick to say that gentle density won't save us. And generally I'm inclined to agree!

But like, goddamn would gentle density being legal everywhere help us out so much.
These look good & fit nicely into a SFH neighborhood. Probably 50% more density than SFHs though

This is a feature, not a bug, of the policies and decisions made by the state governments of those states. This is the intended and desired effect.
New survey of 4,250 faculty in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and Texas: "31% of those surveyed said they were 'actively considering' interviewing in a different state this year. In Florida, it was about 46%—and 28% said they’d already interviewed."
New laws in Florida and elsewhere are pushing faculty to leave, survey says
Forty-six percent of Florida respondents said they planned to look for university jobs in other states.

i’m generally not an accelerationist, but if Congress passes ethics rules and SCOTUS ignores them, it would force a lot of people to confront the scope of what’s happening with this Court. it’s not that it would cause a constitutional crisis as much as it would reveal that we’re already in one.

Some people genuinely struggle to comprehend just how horrifying qualified immunity is in practice. People want to believe it's about split-second, lives-at-stake, no-good-options decisions by police officers. Their minds refuse to believe the kind of facts routinely blessed by district courts.
Wait, holy shit.
