If you wrote this shit as fiction it would be considered too outlandish and cartoonishly conspiratorial.

forget the long arc of history bending towards justice, I need the rube goldberg machine of inexorable consequence to endgame the kind of profoundly ironic yet blackly hilarious karmic downfall that would’ve had ancient greek theatergoers hollering at the chorus

People rarely know what the law is, even when they think they do. Because they assume that the law is something that makes sense and tracks their moral intuitions. So explaining why something doesn‘t make sense/is immoral is an important part of legal persuasion.

As the great Suketu Mehta wrote in the accompanying essay, "By 1643, only nineteen years after the first Walloon settlers founded New Amsterdam, 18 languages were already being
spoken in the city—among a population of a mere 500." To hell with fictions of a homogenous past, linguistic & otherwise.

This is the "testing the waters" phase of the playbook. The GOP ecosystem targets groups like Somalis, Haitians, and trans people specifically because they've calculated that the average person's passive disapproval won't ever turn into active defense. They're exploiting public apathy.
i'm really having a hard time getting past the "surely we can all agree that Somalis are worse than trash" thing. this feels new and very bad

It’s too simplistic to be truly descriptive much less causal but in my homespun soul I think 72% of these people’s evil is about 1) how fast and poorly they age and 2) that they can in no way feel the rhythm. You want to punish the earth because you can’t feel collective effervescence or sit in sun.

Fascists fundamentally misunderstand the politics of artists, of fashion, of self-expression, because they do not respect them and they are obsessed with conformity.

They do this a lot. In the same way that they insist all feminists are ugly, and that's why they're feminists. It's bullshit.
