I'm still mad about this - see the full list of cut projects from the money taken from climate polluters, which would help adaptation and mitigation efforts of the recent weather events, including $900M from the Emergency Response Fund - now frittered away.

#nzpol Data released by Stats NZ today shows that the cost of living rose at its fastest rate for 18 months. Prices rose for 80% of items in the CPI basket, meaning growth in prices was broad-based. Minimum wage workers are now facing a 3rd year of real terms cuts in wages. A thread

Giles Dexter nededs to get some context around this *SHOCK* story. ACC has investments at NZ$51.1 billion (as of 2025), up from NZ$48.1 billion the year before.

So their "deficit" has to be seen in that context. ACC is investing heavily in a portfolio that has a 9.1% return according to their...(1)

The Public Services Commission planning to spend $10k on ads attacking striking nurses, doctors, and firefighters and specifically timing those ads to coincide with Collins’ and Luxon’s anti-union campaign should be a national story tbh, this is great reporting www.emilywrites.co.nz/what-the-hel...
What the hell is going on between the Coalition Government and the Public Service Commission?
It's not normal for public servants and the Government to collude against unions like this.

Should have probably included this comparison of the wage share of the pie in previous 🧵
A stark reminder of just how much Roger and Ruth destroyed the bargaining power of workers as they set about creating a high profit / low wage, private debt fuelled, ecocidal, directionless economy.

If anyone cares at all, EV battery recycling is now hitting 99% recovery for important metals

Please remind me again what the recycle rate for fossil fuels is

Radical take of the day: I don't think you should have to "work hard to get ahead"

I think every person should just have enough to live a good life regardless of whether they "worked hard" for it

We have more than enough. We just have to share it better.

It's 4,000 BC.

You are immortal.

The Egyptian pyramids have not yet been built.

You decide to save $10,000 EVERY DAY, never spending a cent.

6025 years later, it's 2025.

You still don't have as much money as Gina Rinehart.

TAX. THE. FUCKING. BILLIONAIRES.

We all need well funded public services. In a climate emergency would you rather the government spent its money to subsidise oil and tobacco companies or properly fund emergency services?

Just got back from standing with our teacher aides, support staff, teachers, nurses, doctors, and other public sector workers as they implore this Coalition of Cuts to do the right thing.

Using the slightly unscientific car horn metric, it seems that there is overwhelming support from the public 😁👍
