Agree. And in particular get rid of resignation peerages (and resignation honours). It is hideous that an outgoing PM can appoint a random number of legislators for life with no proper quality control or safeguards. All appointments should be cleared by a statutory Commission.
Very good news. Labour's plans for an elected second Chamber were half-arsed and unnecessary. It sounds like they've settled for the right policy: strengthening the Appointments Commission and getting rid of the hereditaries

Reminder that if you see disturbing or traumatic images, playing Tetris as soon as possible afterwards can help the brain cleanse itself, and lessen the impacts of it longer term.

No, I'm not kidding. And no one knows how or why it works. But it DOES work, and I encourage you to remember it.

As an environmentalist who is campaigning hard to replace short haul flights in Europe with high speed rail, I’ve long hated the U.K. Green Party.

Their infantile perfectionist idealism ends in only one place: environmental destruction thanks to Conservatives in government.
Taking fast electric trains across Spain is truly incredible. 300km/h (220 mph) feels so smooth. This was on Iryo - highly recommended. Better than flying.

Luxurious and comfortable and fully electric. Sadly Spain still uses gas for electricity production but they’re changing to solar and wind.

it has been more than irritating – infuriating – to watch a parade of senior Green politicians, who have spent years attacking HS2, now pivoting seamlessly to attacking the Tories for scrapping it. What, exactly, did they think was going to happen?
The Greens share the blame for HS2’s demise
Caroline Lucas and her allies can’t denounce the Tories for scrapping a project they spent years attacking.

ITV’s Good Morning Britain is running a thinly-sourced story that Meghan Markle could replace Dianne Feinstein in the US Senate as its lead discussion. Presenter Ed Balls is asking for audience views. The problem is someone else filled the Senate seat two hours ago. Let’s see when they notice.

Lord grant me the incredible sense of entitlement to ask a democratically elected foreign government whether they’ve checked their humanitarian policies with their voters

I’m absolutely fuming that another massive round of layoffs have hit, jobs in the hundreds if not thousands so insecure and yet this fucking industry boasts how it takes in billions more than any other entertainment industry, like fuck off with that. System’s broken. I hate it.

I just read the news story about the British crocodile scientist in Australia. I really wish I hadn't read the news story about the British crocodile scientist in Australia.

Fuck, really wished I had chosen my tag elon.bsky.social. Reckon I could have got Elon to cough at least $1 billion for it after everyone migrates here once Twitter finally implodes.
