Chief Bruley on seeking accountability for ICE misconduct against his officers: When you call leadership they can't tell you what their people were doing that day. They give a website to file complaints. Complaint form requires you give agents' identity-but agents cover faces, don't wear name tags.

In the years since George Floyd’s murder, Minneapolis has worked to repair both public safety and community trust. But community leaders worry that this latest high-profile shooting of Renee Macklin Good could erode the fragile gains in trust between residents and law enforcement.
Public safety was in a good place in Minneapolis, then ICE showed up
The fatal shooting of Renee Macklin Good could upend a period of stability in Minneapolis, years after the George Floyd unrest.

This is Minneapolis:

There are retirees, child-free 20-somethings, and parents standing outside the local elementary schools in -10°F (-23°C) to keep watch and make sure there aren't any abductions by the federal government at school drop off & pick up.

In MN the Star Tribune is, generously, a centrist news organization. (From my pov they’re absolutely center-right. No bigger defenders of wealth and the status quo.) But even their stodgy editorial board is starting to get what this moment truly is. www.startribune.com/editorial-mi...
Editorial | Minnesota is under siege. This cannot stand.
"What we are witnessing is the storming of the state by the federal government," the Editorial Board writes.

I was assured that the courts said they can't do this
This is what happened in our neighborhood yesterday. ICE snatched a human being off of our streets, roughed them up badly, and then pepper sprayed legal observers as they documented it all. This is a daily occurrence happening all throughout Minnesota right now.

The problem of expanding the smash and grabs to include all people who don't look American enough, regardless of citizenship or immigration status, is it becomes obvious we're not debating immigration policy. It's a government campaign of racialized, militarized street thuggery and harassment.
Nasra Ahmed, a U.S. citizen raised in St. Paul, recounts the encounter with a dozen ICE agents that led to two days at the Sherburne County Jail. She was taken for an MRI in arm and leg restraints, and then released Friday night without charges:

I mean also, the vast majority of Somalis in the US are citizens, it's weird how noone really wants to use the term "ethnic cleansing" because that's exactly the language Republicans use (they're garbage, our country is better off without them, we have to rid ourselves of them)
Pew Research Institute (2023):

• Red State Texas has about 2.1 million undocumented immigrants

• Red State Florida has 1.6 M undocumented immigrants

• Blue State Minnesota has 130,000.

And yet only Minnesota is being occupied by masked thugs over "immigration."

It's *not* about immigration.

To the extent the law still matters: a federal judge has enjoined Operation Metro Surge from retaliating against, arresting, pepper-straying, or stopping the vehicles of peaceful protestors.
