… 25. This Cibola jail was horrible. It was cramped. I was chained up again. The officers mocked me and called me their enemy. They laughed at me. I was kept at the jail for what felt like around three hours. I wasn't given an explanation for why I was there. 26. Security guards then put me on a bus. I think it was around January 27. No one said anything about where I was going. I was handcuffed. It felt like the middle of the night. It was freezing cold in the bus because the driver had the AC on. We had no jackets. The bus eventually took me back to El Paso in the carly morning of Tuesday, January 27th. 27. I was put in a cold cell where I had to sleep on the bare cement floor. Around 10 in the morning my cellmate asked to speak to an ICE officer. Three officers came into the cell so I had a chance to speak to them too. One officer told me that I "had no chance of returning to Minnesota" and that "the best thing for (me] is self-deportation." She told me that if I fought my case, I would spend two to three more months here in El Paso. She offered me $2600 to self-deport. I refused. I wanted to talk to my attorney. They didn't tell me the judge had already ordered my release and return to Minnesota. If I hadn't managed to talk to my attorney who told me a while back that I was ordered released. I might have given up at this point and signed the self-deportation forms because the conditions were so unbearable. … 30. When I was taken back to the detention center from the airport, after missing the flight, I overheard an ICE officer saying in English, "the judge in Minnesota wants this one back." I was put in a cold jail cell again until early next morning (January 28). But again no one had told me directly that a judge had ordered my release … 32. When I arrived in Minneapolis, I was handed off to ICE … I had to sign lots of papers saying that I wasn't going to be a part of any "groups." I didn't know what they meant by "groups." They never told me why I was detained

I’m on the scene at Franklin and 1st. A convoy of about a couple dozen ICE/HSI agents broke the entryway into an apartment building at 6am. No warrant presented. Less than 24 hours ago, Tom Homan announced the end of large convoys in Minnesota… Bullshit.

Something I found particularly galling: Judge Blackwell gives a long speech about the government's incredibly intransigence and malicious compliance with his orders, saying "I have to put conditions on release because you're all so nasty to detainees."

Le's response? I get it, I'm not white. BUT
THE COURT: I want you to understand my goal in any of this is not to threaten you or anyone. What we really want is simply compliance, because on the other side of this is somebody who should not have been arrested in some instances in the first place who is being haled in jail or put in shackles for days, if not a week-plus, after they've been ordered released. That's my concern is for upholding the rule of law and the constitutional rights of all concerned. And so that's my concern. I'm interested in compliance and not so much in threats, and I'm just trying to figure out how to get it. And I know that the Government has a concern about the growing number of requirements that the Court puts in place upon release of individuals. That happens because of the things we learn. For example, if we say, release the person immediately, then we learn that, having transported him to El Paso or New Mexico, you don't bring him back. We learn that somebody is put out on the street with just the clothes on their backs and have to figure out how to get back here when they should not have been arrested here in the first place, let alone flown halfway across the continent of North America. And have to -- so now we have to address that. We have to now say, Bring them back. And then we say, All right, so you brought them back. We can't have them released when it's minus 14 outside. And so now we have to address that. Don't release them in the circumstances that might endanger their health or safety. And so once that's addressed, then we learn they've been released, but now conditions have been imposed. That somebody who should not have been arrested in the first place is now being told, You're going to be released if you wear an ankle monitor, which the Court didn't order because the person was unlawfully detained in the first place. Then we have to go back and address that now. And I hear the concerns about all the energy that this is causing the DOJ to expend, but, with respect, some of it is of your own making by not complying with orders. Do you understand that?

I like it when I can do something to help people displaced by ICE and then after I do that thing I get to eat a pizza.
I want to let you know about something that happened at Pizza Luce and encourage you to thank and patronize them. One of the drivers at Parkway Pizza who is a friend of mine told me tonight about something that happened at the downtown Mpls Pizza Lucé where his wife works. A kitchen manager has been giving rides to workers afraid to take public transportation to work. Last week, two ICE SUVs pulled her over. There was a young Latina women in the car and ICE grabbed her. She is here legally, but apparently, if you are not white, you need to carry a passport or other documents with you. Despite the fact that she is here legally, ICE flew her to their detention facility outside of El Paso, TX. Fortunately, the owner of the Pizza Lucé chain paid for a lawyer to expedite her release. Unfortunately, when ICE is forced to release people they have unlawfully detained and flown to Texas, they do not fly them back. They just dump them on the streets of El Paso. But again, fortunately, the owner of Pizza Lucé paid for a plane ticket to fly her home. So please thank the folks at Pizza Lucé if you have the chance. Dozens of Minnesotans have not been so lucky as this woman and are trying to find their way back from Texas. Today's NY Times has a story about "Selamawit Mehari, an Eritrean single mother of three.... federal agents showed up at her apartment in St. Paul...(even though) her older daughter produced paperwork proving her mother was in the United States lawfully, the agents shackled Ms. Mehari and took her away." The story cites many like her who "were eventually released in Texas, leaving them to find their own way home."

Lawyers can't reach clients in ICE detention. I've heard it anecdotally, but scale of issue is horrifying.

Bloomberg Law is a legal trade pub so many may miss this. Screenshot from their CA newsletter summarizes "bleak" situation for justice and rule of law.

What we found is bleak. Attorneys told us they’re struggling to get information in to or out of ICE and Customs and Border Protection facilities, which are holding nearly 69,000 people this month. And detainees often are forced to choose between remaining in crowded, squalid conditions or leaving the country immediately. Judges in New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles have ordered the government to facilitate attorney-client communications at Homeland Security buildings. But attorneys say that doesn’t always happen. Even if detainees get the option, some worry they’ll be punished if they take it.
