Key to understanding Trump is avoid thinking in terms of ideology (he has none) & therefore policy. Instead think grammar. He simply cannot stand to be an object in any important moment. Of course when a dramatic war started he needed to commandeer headlines and make himself the proverbial subject.

There is a massive problem across this country with adopting and normalizing right wing propaganda phrases

The elimination of USAID is a moral atrocity and all involved made a choice to enable, and then lie about, ending the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in the world.
MAE SOT, Thailand (AP) - Mohammed Taher clutched the lifeless body of his 2-year-old son and wept. Ever since his family's food rations stopped arriving at their internment camp in Myanmar in April, the father had watched helplessly as his once-vibrant baby boy weakened, suffering from diarrhea and begging for food.
On May 21, exactly two weeks after Taher's little boy died, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio sat before Congress and declared: "No one has died" because of his government's decision to gut its foreign aid program. Rubio also insisted: "No children are dying on my watch."
That, Taher says, "is a lie."

A sure sign of anti-bike concern trolling is an elected official who lives nowhere near the bike lane in question suddenly becoming *very* concerned about emergency response time, a thing she would never do if this were just normal bumper-to-bumper traffic on a street with no bike lane.

Can somebody at
@NYC_DOT
please explain to me how this is even remotely acceptable? With the new parking lane, cars can't pull out of the way to let this ambulance pass.

When every second counts in an emergency, this could literally mean death for someone in a crisis. I have heard from so many people about how this Court Street redesign was a terrible idea, and this really seals the deal. Someone could be dead because of this.

Local Law 6 of 2025 - which I introduced, and was passed - mandates that local firehouses MUST be consulted before changes like this go into effect. Did the local firehouse sign off on this?

Among other things, it is insulting to ask Coates, an actual intellectual, to play the role of a politician—or, worse, of a consultant.
perrybaconjr.bsky.social
This was revealing. Worth reading. The basic demand is that Coates spend less time thinking/writing his true feelings and more time playing political strategist. Klein asks him over and over him to do Dem strategy; he says no, over and over. www.nytimes.com/2025/09/28/o...

Nobody ever refers to a detached single family house with a garage and a yard as “luxury,” despite it being an order of magnitude more luxurious than ~98% of apartments.

So, just to confirm I am understanding properly:

Some number of gun deaths are acceptable under the 2nd Amendment, but no amount of commentary about a deceased podcaster is acceptable under the 1st?

Super interesting and very accessible read. A related issue, which seems to have escaped this round of litigation, is how much Google dominates the analytics of its own ads’ performance…

I would like Never Trump Republicans to demand that George W. Bush appear and speak up for democracy in this country. Why do ppl always ask Obama to do things and “where is Kamala”? Where is the 43rd President of the United States while democracy crashes & burns. This is the party he led. 1/

On my neighborhood discussion board NIMBYs will almost always preface their opinions with “I’ve been living here for X0+ years and…” despite our bylaws that state explicitly that meet duration should never matter…

I am just going to keep posting that the TX governor recently pardoned a political murderer.

The dude texted "I'm going to shoot protestors", then went and shot a Black Lives Matter protester. He was convicted in a jury trial.

Hard to find a more blatant example of celebrating political violence.
Gov. Greg Abbott pardons Daniel Perry, veteran who killed police brutality protester in 2020
A Travis County jury sentenced Perry to 25 years in prison last year, prompting Abbott to ask the state parole board to review his case.

Interesting debate on inclusionary zoning at #yimbytown. @justupthepike.bsky.social making the case for variable funding policy depending on the jurisdiction. Some counties need it funded; some don’t.
