The mental health benefits of not knowing any history right now must be massive. Moving through your day with total equanimity. What happens next? Who knows? Maybe something good

Remember: the Montgomery bus boycott was only conceived as a 1-day boycott. Most longterm activists like Rosa Parks & ED Nixon worried about whether people would do it. Only after the successful first day did it change to indefinite. It was sustained by a carpool system, giving 10,000 rides a day.
Everyone opining about whether boycotts are ever useful hopefully is checking what they say against “Is this a correct statement about the Montgomery Bus Boycott?”

Rosa Parks said in the early 1950s, after being active for years around voter registration, pursuing justice for women who had been raped, & protesting wrongful incarcerations, "It was hard to keep going when all our efforts seemed in vain." And yet she did, making her bus stand in 1955.
None of us can be sure what will “work.” You try multiple things and find your way in. Read some histories of the Civil Rights Movement by those who participated. They were never “sure” of what would work. Some campaigns fizzled out. But persistence, creativity, determination, and focus were key.

Hochul’s move here is profoundly racist and dehumanizing. Defining Palestinian studies as fundamentally antisemitic means defining Palestinians as something to be erased. It is genocidal.

This is also an unacceptable attack on academic freedom. The governor should have no say in faculty hiring.
A new McCarthy era is upon us. Stupid, depressing, and dangerous as ever. I wonder whose name will carry the dunce cap in the history books. Too many are complicit. I’ll need to find upset and action, but for now I’m feeling grief at the dehumanization inherent to all this.

ASL interpreters who work in the arts (concerts, opera, theatre, etc) deserve to be valued as artists too. it takes so much skill to be this good at capturing the FEEL of music beyond just translating the meaning of the text and it’s an invaluable accessibility service
The ASL version of “Not Like Us” is magnificent.

Disco Elysium blowing up the way it did should be evidence that there’s no predicting the games market. Imagine trying to tell a money guy that game of the year was gonna be an Estonian visual novel by communists where you can pet the mailbox and say “I want to make fuck with you”

Just go to help chat and tell them you want to return any Neil Gaiman books you have. I didn’t even have to list the titles. Zero questions asked, they just returned the 3 books I had and issued me credits.
Just a heads up for peeps, if you bought a Neil Gaiman audiobook from Audible, they are allowing refunds for them with no questions asked and no matter how long ago you bought them. I don’t even have an active subscription and they gave me credits back for two titles purchased in 2020.
