“Avatar had no cultural impact” is the “PlayStation has no games” of film criticism, an empty argument that was never objectively true and was only subjectively true for a certain window of time. They made a theme park out of the thing; I think a couple of people liked the movie.

A Christmas Carol is easily the greatest story ever written imo, because it's the only story that I am totally willing to watch an infinite number of adaptations of - whereas I've seen like 6 iterations of Batman's origin and I honestly don't need to ever see another one.

Thing about people clowning on The Odyssey for period inaccuracy is that, yeah, it’s not a documentary, but it’s also not about people that were real back then either. Do you get upset about The Avengers not dressing like cops even though that’s what authority figures look like in the 2020s?
