The war on vaccines is a war on child mortality on the side of death, & everyone who did anything to aid and facilitate RFK Jr's rise to authority over vaccine rules has a hand in the future rise in child deaths. Widespread vaccination for a time was a pinnacle of human achievement, undone by fools

Reject the Death Cult. Cast it out, to a man. Exorcise the Pestilence God from U.S. Government. We will win a better future for our children but it's not going to be easy.

It's seductively appealing to be always saying "well you know the economy/job market/etc these days really sucks" but I have been hearing this consistently since basically always and obviously things have changed (improved) over time. So it can't be true. This should be easy to recognize.

I hate to do the cheap "now imagine if X did it" thought experiment but I must know what these hogs would say if a white person from England went to a U.S. university and did a crime. Is it because Portuguese is too foreign or is it because the goal is "0 immigration of any kind from anywhere?"
They sure want the number of foreign students to drop to zero.

In my fed courts class in the heady days of 2012 we spent a a couple days on standing cases where the SCOTUS clerk professor squarely accused Scalia of "Lochnerizing," and that's before we even got to Bush v. Gore. "Liberal lawyers" have been questioning the legitimacy of the Court for ages.

This is not the behavior of people who think they will ever be out of power or called to account. But we are going to win. And they have TWEETED unambiguous confessions to all their crimes. We are going to win and they are going to rot in jail.
More premeditated killing outside of armed conflict.

There’s a word for that.

This is 10x worse than the Saturday Night Massacre and would be a career ending scandal for the President and dozens of White House and DoJ staffers at any other point in American history.

A reason for this is many purported liberals are elitist strivers who put a lot of value on the exclusive nature of selective colleges, and they see high school sports as an important lever for getting their daughters into selective colleges.
They developed the "high school girl's sports" angle as a wedge issue, to lever their way up to full society-wide discrimination. What's endlessly stunning to me is how many purported liberals a) helped them when it started & b) are still helping them even after the larger purpose has become clear!

The Warner Brothers-Netflix-Paramount corporate drama has me really jonesing to re-read THE classic on the topic, Barbarians at the Gate. Any recommendations for a similar, more recent book of the same, or at least close to it, caliber?

Don't think it's an exaggeration to say the two events in my lifetime that triggered the fastest, most aggressive and most impactful political response, by both parties were:

1. 9/11
2. Somewhat hot labor market in 2022
We will likely never have a fully embraced hot labor economy which basically limits the potential for any and all leftism dramatically.

I got "upgraded" by Lyft to "black car" tier the other day and it was a fucking Model Y. Yes it was black but, lmao, no Tesla is delivering the "black car" experience. They just *feel* so cheap.
please take a moment to appreciate Tesla's epic accomplishment of coming dead last in the auto industry in reliability, despite making relatively expensive cars with a tiny fraction of the moving parts

People on the West Coast (as a reminder--this is California, Oregon, and Washington) famously don't understand the importance of wildfire mitigation and forestry.

This is just culture war horseshit. You don't have to take these people seriously and you CERTAINLY don't need to feel bad for them.

Exactly this. I do not watch James Bond to find out why he's like this. I watch to see how he gets out of this elaborate jam.
this is also why I think trying to give James Bond an overarching storyline is a mistake

we do not need a tragic backstory, we need Bond to show up and deliver some quips and order a martini and drive a fancy car and seduce a beautiful lady

it is a Bond movie, which is distinct from “about Bond”

I am super pro renting. I only got dragged into home ownership because the rental market for the size of house we needed was very thin--had more options by buying, and the cost was comparable. Buying a house and getting a mortgage did yield any special sense of accomplishment or pride.
And, again: not trying to proselytize for renting! I just want to de-stigmatize renting. It is how many of us pay for housing. And many of us choose to pay for housing this way, not because it’s the only way we can, but because it’s the way that we prefer. And most importantly …

Really think about what you're talking about when you proclaim "LEEEROY JENKINSSS" and tell me with a straight face that kids these days are the ones that are ridiculous.
the 6-7 phenomenon is in no way different from any other catchphrase that kids have yelled out at any point in the last hundred years, there's no daylight between that and when i was in high school, the year straight where every guy kept yelling "i'm rick james bitch"

1 or 2 pencils is sending me. They're consumable. You use them up. Oliver Twist ass kid writing so lightly you can barely read it to save the graphite, to make his 1-2 pencils last through 12th grade.
Trump: "You can give up certain products. You could give up pencils. Because under the China policy, every child can get 37 pencils. They only need 1 or 2. They don't need that many. You always need steel. You don't need 37 dolls for your daughter. 2 or 3 is nice. So we're doing things right."

Georgia State House 121 Special -- UPDATE

- 🔵 ☑️ Eric Gisler (D) - 5,873 (50.9%)
- 🔴 Mack "Dutch" Guest IV (R) - 5,676 (49.1%)

We can project that, in an upset, Eric Gisler has flipped Georgia's 121st State House District.

We have built endless machines to stimulate us at all times and evoke a neverending torrent of strong feelings, and nothing is so stimulating, so evocative, as cheap nostalgia paired with the assurance that you’re right to feel everything good has been taken from you, you’ve been wronged by history
this is why i prefer the term "the malaise." there is *demonstrably* a malaise. nobody likes The Current Thing™️. but *what* they're mad about? or more precisely, what *caused* them to be mad? that is a much harder question, and one it does not do to presuppose

Among other things, it's weird for the DOJ to say they are "adovcating on behalf of their client" (singular). IDK maybe it's a DOJ thing intended to mean the public/gov't. I worked at an agency and we never really used the language "client" as it's an odd fit for a gov't lawyer.

The way to understand the second Trump administration is as a content generation machine. They aren’t implementing fascism, they’re creating fascism-flavored content. They aren’t implementing real policy, they’re signing executive orders to post about them. Anything that gets attention is the goal.
I don't really know what the administration hopes to gain by picking fights with the most well-liked pop artists in the United States. You're just generating backlash for no discernible reason outside of owning the libs.
Sabrina Carpenter ratioed the White House after it used her song in an ICE video.

The WH deleted the post…but now it’s back with a new ICE video, this time using an altered clip from Carpenter’s SNL monologue.

but I think WB-Netflix is as bad as any other lurch in this direction and I think if you have the resources — and even if you think you don't — you should find ways to get people together on a regular basis. movie screenings. poker nights. chess club. even a standing bar night.
