When the KAG case first started one of my EXTREMELY not-online/not-political close friends called me up one morning out of the blue to ask me "what can people do to help get that poor guy back from El Salvador." It was reaching tons of normies.
Not being able to realize that the KAG case was *horrible* for Trump's popularity due to be ideologically blinkered on an overly-specific version of political salience theory--that's when you could 100% tell Yglesias had gone off the rails (even if he still has something useful to say now & then).

Gender repression produces a future as bleak as 1984, and the only way out is to simply choose differently, choose to accept that you might have social acceptance. Choose to be welcoming that others might welcome you.

Instead we get Linehan, driving gender testeria & wondering why no one loves him.

The inevitable consequence is conservatives miserable under gender tyranny to the point that the gender rebels are physically attacked out of envy for our willingness to be ourselves. Our unwillingness to self-censor fuels their drive to eliminate us.

This ushers in harsher and harsher self-censorship in an attempt to never be perceived as trans by everyone who gives a shit about social acceptance.

And, of course, it's conservatives that care most about SA, so they get angrier and angrier that they are less free but trans ppl still exist.

Socially punishing trans ppl depends on the idea that literally every single person knows who is and isn't trans on sight.

But they don't. They rely on stereotypes. Which means that hating trans ppl just means hating ppl who break gender rules, which causes individuals to fear breaking those rules.
I understand that a lot of folks have been misled by fear-mongering and powerful regressive voices but it’s still astonishing to me that so many have fallen for the idea that oppressively policing other people’s gender identity and expression could in any way be part of an enlightened future.

Recently, I had to argue down a junior engineer who kept trying to pay me back for a drink "look, I make a lot more than you. In a few years you can just pay it forward to another junior engineer."

Idk these things are important cultural markers to me.

Possibly I should have pinged then that he was probably robbing the company blind.
Breaking that social rule is a sign he would break others.

The CEO was like "oh so it's not overpriced when someone else is paying?"

I didn't say anything but in my head I was "you fucking idiot. Yes £4 for a coke is overpriced. But it's better than letting the intern pay for my £9 fancy beer. I am doing this so he can feel debt clear at minimal cost."

Once I remarked to my CEO at the time (the one who is now in jail), that I didn't normally buy soft drinks at pubs because they were overpriced.

A few months later the intern demanded that he got to pay for a round. So he had taken his turn. I ordered a coke.

As technical staff I will never let admin staff pay for a drink for me, or bring stuff to me. Because taking care of what I need at work is your job, outside of work it ain't.

I think a lot about the rules of who pays for drinks etc especially around economic or social disparity.

So like if I am out with my unemployed/unstably employed friends I am paying for everything.

When I was volunteer tallship crew the officers (who were paid) would often pay.

It's because she doesn't know how to be the head of CBS News. Just no clue what a person in this role does. Similar to how Pete Hegseth and Sean Duffy don't know how to be cabinet secretaries.

A hallmark of this movement is people being out of their depth. It says, "expertise is unnecessary."
I’m sorry but why is the head of cbs news on tv herself

To give you a better idea of weapon systems being used in Thai/Cambodia conflict:

This morning, Cambodian troops shared a video of a BM-21 rocket launcher in action, claiming an attack on Thai forces in Surin.

Part of this is just politics being like this now but a not insignificant part of it for this administration specifically is because Donald Trump is a fox news grandpa so appearing on camera maximizes your chances of being played on Fox news so he sees that you're actually doing something

a lot of people also don't conceptualize the random acts of murder in the Caribbean this way but they should because basically every one of the strikes gets posted by official US government accounts on twitter so the base can jerk off to snuff films

half the cabinet secretaries are former TV hosts or podcasters, forms of media which have become increasingly personalist, which is why their first instinct to any unfolding event or scandal is to personally appear in front of a camera

It is not lost on anybody that Hungary’s anti-LGBT laws were made under the pretense of “protecting children,” meanwhile horrific evidence is coming out about the Orbán regime covering up actual child abuse.
💥Hungary’s probably most scenic anti-Orbán protest is underway under the banner “Let’s defend our children,” after new details emerged about sexual and physical abuse in the child care system — plus ignorance or cover-ups by authorities. Orbán rival Péter Magyar leads the march of tens of thousands.

Next year we expect to lose money every month as we ramp up ambitious new initiatives. We’ve saved up for many years to do this this, but running in the red can’t go on forever. Please, if you can, we can really use your support. Link below.
We put our founding date as our BlueSky birthday and got locked out of BlueSky last week during the heart of fundraising season.

Our budget for next year is looking tight and we’re trimming our agenda. If you can help us with a donation, we will put it to truly good use! free.law/donate/
