The footage of Australian police acting like ICE agents is pretty shocking, but the media broadly stepping up to downplay, deny and mis-describe their violence in ambiguous terms is completely unsurprising.

It's an industry fundamentally incapable of ever assigning any blame to the police: ever
A protest against Israeli President Isaac Herzog’s visit is under way at Sydney’s Town Hall. Police have capsicum-sprayed dozens of protesters and members of the media as clashes turn increasingly violent. Live updates: shorturl.at/Wq8BD

If NSW Premier Chris Minns thinks the NSW Police violence at the Sydney #HerzogNotWelcome rally tonight will send a message to anti-genocide, pro-Palestine protesters, he's right! The message: Don't Vote for Chris Minns' Labor Govt at the 2027 NSW election. (I'm obvs thinking vote Greens.) 😠 #nswpol

I can vouch that NSW police act like this in western Sydney and towns with high Aboriginal populations every single day, and are in fact largely untouchable. The difference today is the number of white people who saw what police do, usually with impunity.

I've attended many rallies in Sydney: anti-nuclear, anti-war, Aboriginal rights, climate action, gay marriage, Voice, pro-Palestine.

At the #HerzogNotWelcome rally tonight, I felt genuinely afraid of our NSW Police. Protesters were peaceful & cooperative. The police were angry & violent. 😔 #nswpol

Old mate really struggled to get off his own bike. Seems like a skill you would hope someone would master before letting them loose on the street wearing a cop uniform.

Do. Not. Let. Them. Minimise. This.

Armed state violence against peaceful prayer is peak Islamophobia and vicious racism and. We have very few codified constitutional freedoms and this is almost certainly unconstitutional. They are officers of the law.
Extraordinary footage. Police pulling off people engaged in peaceful prayer.

Something to remember as you watch this footage is that NSW Police approved the antisemitic National Socialist Network demonstration outside of NSW Parliament House.

All of the footage is NSW cops assaulting peaceful protesters. They are a disgrace.

Chris Minns gave them licence to be as violent as they want.

remember every mention of “the” leaders of “the” Australian Jewish community is a lie. There is no one single Jewish community. Anti-zionist Jewish people exist and are making their voices heard despite consistent erasure by politicians and corporate media.

At least Abbott’s suggestion of giving Prince Philip a knighthood was just unnecessary and dumb.
Albanese’s invitation to Herzog to visit Australia is unnecessary, dumb, divisive and highly offensive

Are they keeping Herzog’s parliamentary address secret because they know it’ll be controversial? Ofc.
Calling for social cohesion while organising something they know will inflame anger and protest is outrageous. And the press gallery’s role in keeping it secret is unforgivable.

The US military industrial complex
War criminals
Gambling industry
Climate destruction
Palantir
Murdoch media
Negative gearing
Sovereign risk
Democratic erosion

Albo will spend the next week defending this and ever-more closely tying his own reputation to it. To understand why he would do so, remember that he always - always - chooses the line of least resistance as he perceives it.

Bad enough that Anthony Albanese is going to host a genocide enthusiast.

He has not yet ruled out membership of Trump's 'Board of Peace'. Perhaps he might announce his acceptance when Herzog is here?

Such sycophancy to the fascists in Washington and Tel Aviv would be shameful, but no surprise.
11 countries but not Australia. I suppose it would be strange to express any opposition to Israel’s illegal violations at this point given we are rolling out the red carpet for Isaac “there are no innocents in Gaza” Herzog, a chief architect of the genocide. Total capitulation.

I reckon the fact that ICE agents murdered a nurse in cold blood is the story, not that the govt is disputing video evidence.
The govt lies everyday - that’s not news anymore …
