Since he’s not the Sharpest Tool in the shed, I hope Trump administration Please Please Please keep attacking Sabrina Carpenter, a move which will only help them with the average Manchild that’s already their base — not a Coincdence they chose Sab but it is a Dumb and Poetic move

Nonsense

pajamas on an airplane is the morally correct outfit choice
Duffy: "We've asked Americans to bring their better selves, to bring the civility back to travel. To say please and thank you ... maybe not wear pajamas or slippers on the airplane."

A hill I will always die on:

Asking a linguist how many languages they speak is extremely reasonable

If you’re an anglophone linguist and you only speak English, you should understand that as an emergent fact of empire
What’s the worst question someone can ask after you tell them your profession? For linguists, it’s definitely “how many languages do you speak?”, but I’m curious what else is happening to the rest of y’all out there?!

Give them a C-
if this is discrimination, I’m genuinely unsure what you’re supposed to do when a student responds to a prompt with some religious gibberish
OU has put the professor here on administrative leave:

every neoliberal policy analyst wants to "trim the fat" of society until the lean times come. community level resilience, redundancies, etc are good actually
When power went out across all of Puerto Rico on 16 April, a lot of the lights in the town of Adjuntas stayed on. A combination of experimental microgrids, solar panels, and storage kept power on for many businesses and residents.

Could Microgrids Be Puerto Rico's Answer to Endless Blackouts?
Meanwhile, feds redirect $365 million away from solar toward grid fixes

This is why I use @typst.app because I never have to explain to someone “oh it’s pronounced toopsed” #typst
explaining to @sarasoci.al how LaTeX is “lah-tech” and not “lay-tex” and she thinks i’m doing a bit until i go “no i’m totally serious the X isn’t an X it’s Chi” and she pauses for like 5 seconds and goes “i think i’m going to go jump off a bridge”

This, unfortunately, is the way.

Their spirits are broken.
I feel like what we're seeing right now is similar to the nihilism that happened after the big wars. The idea that nothing matters, helplessness, knowing they won't be able to get a good job or buy a house or have a family at the rate things are going. I think it's hard to care if you feel hopeless.

Relative who gleefully bragged during the first impeachment that Trump was now eligible for a third term suddenly just wants everyone to get along
My most republican, most maga relatives have either reverted to not talking politics or openly praying the lord takes them all up to heaven soon, depending on which flavor they are, which is how you know morale is low

my dissertation was about the history of Catholic converts in the US and every day something makes me remember how often I was told it was too niche
My dissertation turns 10 next month and I've been dipping in to see if there's anything in there worth pulling out and working with, and each chapter is effectively about a different emotional struggle that would be familiar today.

I am a little tired of being yelled at for this but apparently not tired about: heroin addiction is not RFK’s problem. He’s a sociopath. Most addicts aren’t. Honestly, walk into an NA meeting, grab the first person with a few years to be head of HHS and they’d probably do a better job than Bobby.
This is what happens when you put a privileged, 14 year heroin addict in charge of health. Duh

It is kind of ironic that schools have spent so many years trying to convince students that academic writing should be completely devoid of any personal voice and are now in a state of crisis trying to deal with students using generative AI to write assignments that completely take away their voice.

precisely my thought. the president and his dumbass republican allies put these men and women into harm’s way for a political stunt and look what has happened
Whether this was random street crime or targeted political violence, I think it was bad for the president to unnecessarily put the National Guard in harm’s way like this. They simply don’t need to be there.

trump sent those national guardsmen to their deaths.

Yep. If voters aren't making choices based in actual reality then democracy cannot function

Can we get directions to the ones that are still in need of defacement
Yesterday my partner and I counted all the ads along Chicago's Brown Line for "Friend," a company selling an AI chatbot pendant, and tallied how many of those ads were defaced.

Still working on a longer piece on this, but here's the quick and dirty: we counted 104 "Friend" ads total, 42 defaced.
