In the light of recent developments, I wanna say that I'm 100% anti-censorship and pro "create and enjoy whatever fiction you want". It's one thing not wanting to consume dark fiction yourself and not wanting it to exist at all. Your personal discomfort doesn't mean it should be banned or illegal.

Honestly, the best way to make an artist’s day is by being very specific about what you like about a piece. Geek out a lil. Gush over how they use line, color, texture. Every mark is layed down by the artist, so if you can connect with those little moments, it helps the artist feel seen.

Whenever a publisher is late paying me, I send an email to my point of contact asking them to look into the late payment…

And then I switch gears to investing work time into myself & my own projects (be it a book or making YouTube videos).

If I’m working on spec/for free, it ain’t for them. Lol.

But please, do continue to use GenAI slop thumbnails for your YouTube videos, or your album art, or your book covers or whatever else. I'll continue to refuse to watch/listen/read any of them, knowing already they're not worth the time & that you're a disappointing lazy hack.

‘Children's book illustrator isn't a job anymore.’
I've been out of work for a while now. I made children's book illustrations, stock art, and took various art commissions.

Now I have several maxed out credit cards and use a donation bin for food. I haven't had a steady contract in over a year. two weeks ago, when a client who has switched to AI found out about this he gave me $50 out of "a sense of guilt." Basically pity for the fact that Illustrator, as a job, does not exist anymore.

It was my birthday recently and I sincerely considered not living anymore.
The worst part of all is that the parents who once supported me fully in being an artist sent me an AI generated picture of a caricature of themselves holding a birthday cake with my name spelled incorrectly.

Some observations: I live in the arctic where the sun doesn't set during the summer & doesn't rise during the winter. While in the winter I'm constantly sleepy, during the summer I'm active and require less sleep.
Which means it's not even laziness to want to lay around sometimes, it's just nature.

Despite expressing concerns about breaking end-to-end encryption, Germany refrained from taking a definitive stance on the Chat Control proposal during the September 12th LEWP meeting. A willingness to negotiate and compromise remains.

Countries opposing include the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Finland, and Estonia. Undecided countries are Germany, Slovenia, Romania, and Greece. I live in a place fairly far away from everyone. Most of my friends live on the other side of the country. So yes, I would be miserably lonely without my online friends and communities. Especially since I'd lack the healing influence of the minorities and creative spirits.
