I'm more moderate on this issue than Kate, because I only think that people who complain about pylons should have their electricity cut off.
When I am head of the world, every single Nimby who whines about pylons and solar panels will be ejected from their house, the house bulldozed, and a bloody great pylon erected exactly where their sitting room used to be www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Trump is across the details?
The pettiest person to hold high office: within hours of taking office, with serious business piling up, Trump took time to cancel the Secret Service detail for former national security adviser John Bolton - a thorn in Trump’s side - even though Bolton faces Iranian death threats.

A third and final post about the 'Lettuce before Action' of Elizabeth Truss

The final piece of evidence which shows, on balance, that it was not intended as a serious legal letter

A clinical take down of the Truss libel letter.

Almost makes me miss my libel days...

Thank you for the RTs and likes of that quick post about Truss’s misconceived and illiberal libel threat.

Did not expect to ever spend time analysing a legal threat from a former Lord High Chancellor against a First Lord of the Treasury.

The bizarre letter was equal to these bizarre circumstances.

Hello to all the new followers who've arrived for the Liz Truss comedy cease and desist letter. Be prepared for long silences, sporadic cat posts and the occasional comment on England's seam attack.
If someone else launches a hilariously hopeless libel action I might perk up for a bit

While far more skilled, erudite and suitably qualified legal people will no doubt tackle the substance of this curious letter, I offer some brief observations. /1

Interestingly this letter is not in accordance with the pre-action protocol for defamation claims, the claim to be private and confidential is nonsense and any attempt to use over the PM's statements would be hilarious

This would be a textbook example of unwise litigation taught to law students for decades to come if she issued proceedings.

It would be struck out and laughed out of court
Liz Truss has sent a cease and desist letter to Sir Keir Starmer demanding he stops claiming she crashed the economy since it is supposedly ‘false and defamatory’. How great if this case ends up in court www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/202...

It is rather astonishing to go on an issue where a) you have demonstrably done nothing on it and b) your opponent can demonstrate he has put hundreds of criminals in prison.
Starmer: "The leader of the opposition has been an Mp for 8 years. Her party have been in govt for 7 and a half of those 8 years. She was the children's minister. She was the women and equalities minister. I can;t remember her once raising this issue in the House."

It's striking that Starmer has spent years banging on about his role as DPP, locking up criminals, yet none of these right-wing, grifting windbags thought to check his, impressive, record on tackling grooming gangs. Quelle surprise.

We read The Eighteenth Emergency, Hound of the Baskervilles, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Frankenstein, Catcher in the Rye and probably some others I can't remember. I loathed Frankenstein and Catcher, R&J was fine, Macbeth was good and I loved Hound of the Baskervilles.
US and UK friends, I'm curious: What books were part of your required reading for highschool literature class? Which of them do you remember loving, and which did you loathe?
