I’m picking up some new friends from the latest Twitter exodus, so I should reintroduce myself.

I’m Emi! I live in Houston, TX. I write sometimes but mostly I cook, swear, and hang out with my awesome husband and my two ridiculous cats. I also talk about movies and tv a lot. Y’all means all.
This is Asha. The cutest tiny calico cat laying on a dusty (sorry!) wood floor staring at the camera with big wide amber eyes. She is a princess and the ruler of the household. Her hobbies including bullying her brother, taking baths, drowning toy mice in her water bowl, and napping atop her 6 ft cat tower A bowl of Texas chili with no beans topped with shredded cheese and a corner slice of cornbread A bowl of minestrone soup topped with grated Parmesan cheese and two slices of French bread Sterling Mallory Archer the enormous tuxedo goof. He is stretched out on a kitchen counter with a goofy face because he has one brain cell. He’s the sweetest guy and he loves big hugs. He requires at least 30 minutes of dedicated attention in two sessions every single day

Oh and one more fun note! BMI isn’t a great tool, as we all know, but in studies, the patients with the best health outcomes were just past the line into overweight, not the skinny patients or the “normal weight.” Maybe that’s connected to set points, but we don’t know yet. More work to be done!

Not to be whiny, but I would really like for something good to happen. On a personal level. On a national level. On a global level. One of all three.

Anyway, another good example of how doing the work can help us discover that “burning more calories than you consume” might sound like good sense, it actually isn’t true in practice. Leave people the fuck alone and let them be the size their body wants them to be.

Not as valuable as research, but I was talking to the dietician at the chemo center and she said not everyone loses weight on chemo. Some people gain. She said it depends on if you’re naturally thin or not. Thin people lose and fat people tend to gain. I am jealous! I want to gain!

Interview is in the most recent Gastropod episode and it’s very good. He studied Biggest Loser contestants and found that metabolism wasn’t a determinate of weight loss or keeping the weight off. We all have an equilibrium our body wants to stay at. It’s different for different people.
undercoveremi.bsky.social
Wow. Staggeringly medically incorrect. I just listened to a great interview with a former NIH researcher on weight set points and how metabolism is not the factor we thought it was. He had to quit because the administration thought actual proper studies were “woke.” And now we get this shit instead

additional weird overlap: benjamin "bugsy" siegel, kingpin of Murder Inc and effective founder of modern vegas, had to be talked out of killing Joseph Goebbels and Hermann Goering at a party in Italy in 1939

you ever think about those real weird overlaps. like tennessee williams might have listened to the ramones

So this light timing thing is really fucking with workers who relay on the rail because they can’t afford to park anywhere close to their job
undercoveremi.bsky.social
For those who don’t live here, Houston only really has an undependable bus system and the rail, which only operates in a small area downtown. It’s hell to park in the Med Center, so a lot of people find a cheaper lot near the rail and park and ride from there. Loop residents take the rail direct.

I heard from critics who saw it at the festivals that it’s a decent film despite some script issues, and that he’s fine in his first serious role. But it’s a mid budget movie for grownups and people just don’t show up in droves to those anymore. I probably won’t since the reviews are very meh

Complained about this last week, but I’m doing it again. My nurse last chemo said it’s making everyone in the Med Center late to work and it’s been a disaster for the hospital systems.

okay so we've been given a chronic medical condition by corporate polluters, and now it's incumbent on us to stop breathing. you love to see it.

As somebody with asthma who uses inhalers - SHUT THE FUCK UP. THIS ARTICLE IS SHAMING PEOPLE WITH A CHRONIC CONDITION.

"Significantly" My ass. You know what else does? AI Data centers - corporations - cows - asphalt - THOUSANDS OF OTHERS THINGS THAT ARE NOT MEDICINE.

The replies are incredible. I cannot compete. I dip toast in over medium egg yolks, and broccoli in A1. I love pickled beets, boxed scalloped potatoes, olive loaf and Lebanon bologna. Otherwise pretty normal.

Makes me feel a little less insane to see exactly my first thought when I heard TX was sending its guard to invade other states in print.

Texas once feared a phantom federal occupation. Now Gov. Abbott’s troops are helping carry it out under Trump. And Houston may be next, writes the Houston Chronicle editorial board. bit.ly/48Q3D5C

That does make a difference! Lol I was pretty early in erabus the first time, and then a bit more loaded up in Oceanus. Do you get anything other than the keepsake and the random rewards later on for fighting him?

Twice. Both times I barely made it out alive, but I definitely did better the second time. He hits hard!

we need a word for a type of person who spends all their time working to live in a city so they can be near cool things, but they don't actually like going out

It’s so fun! The last rivals were insane, though I think surface was harder than underworld. Now I’m leveling all the weapons. Somehow there are 4 aspects I haven’t unlocked!

That actress is something else. She was married to Jude Law for like 5 minutes and tbh he fumbled the fucking bag. The stuff with her in the garden is ::chefs kiss::

It’s gorgeous. Even the Lucy stuff is fucking hot. Problematic, of course, but the fun stuff frequently is
